‘The Reds’ to greet fans despite Govt curb

The professional football club in Liverpool, England – Liverpool F.C. – are gearing up vis à vis the potential return of supporters to their residence – Anfield – irrespective of the fact that COVID-19 continues to wallop the United Kingdom.

Liverpool Football Club is a professional football club in Liverpool, England, that competes in the Premier League, the top tier of English football. Domestically, the club has won 19 League titles, seven Football Association (FA) Cups, a record eight League Cups and 15 FA Community Shields.

Anfield is a football stadium in Anfield, Liverpool, Merseyside, England, which has a seating capacity of 53,394, making it the seventh largest football stadium in England. It has been the home of Liverpool F.C. since their formation in 1892.

Fans have not been able to watch their side play at Anfield since Liverpool was knocked out of the Champions League by the Spanish professional football club Atlético Madrid back in March.

The Government has put aside plans which would have seen supporters return to stadia at a reduced capacity, with pilot events scrapped back in September due to a rise in coronavirus cases.

Nevertheless, irrespective of the UK Government’s above decision, ‘The Reds’ have pressed on with their own plans to welcome spectators and they have offered fans an update on the situation.

In an official statement on the club’s website, Liverpool stated, “As part of the club’s ongoing preparations for the potential return of supporters to the stadium in the future, we would like to provide an update to fans on the current situation. It was expected that the opening fixtures of the 2020-21 seasons would take place behind closed doors until at least October at the earliest, with the likelihood that stadiums would then initially operate at reduced capacity in line with social distancing measures.”

The statement added, “As of the end of September, this plan was postponed due to increasing cases of COVID-19 nationally. However, as the situation continues to evolve and remains subject to change, we are continuing to work hard to ensure that when the time is right for spectators to return, we are in the best possible position to welcome fans back to Anfield while ensuring a safe environment for everyone in attendance.”

“As such, we are currently working on a number of new processes and systems, which will be introduced in the coming weeks, which will enable us to be properly prepared to welcome fans back to Anfield as safely and efficiently as possible, when Government guidelines allow. We will provide more information on this and will be contacting fans regarding these upcoming changes in due course,” the statement continued.

The statement concluded by stating, “We will continue to keep supporters updated with all 2020-21 season developments and we thank you for your patience and understanding.”
