Optus Stadium ring pull platform to add zing

Optus Stadium (Australia) is all set to sweep visitors off their feet -the reason being a 42m-high viewing platform that has a striking resemblance to a giant beer can ring pull is set to open on the roof of Optus Stadium ahead of the 2022 Australian Football League (AFL) season.

‘The West Australian’ stated that the announcement of the $7 million all-abilities attraction already has some wags giving Perth’s one of a kind stadium the nickname of ‘tinnie’.

The 60,156-capacity Perth Stadium, also known by naming rights sponsorship as Optus Stadium, is a multipurpose stadium in Perth, Western Australia, located in the suburb of Burswood. It was completed in late 2017 and officially opened on January 21^st, 2018.

The Australian Football League (AFL) is the pre-eminent and only fully professional men’s competition of Australian rules football. Through the AFL Commission, the AFL also serves as the sport’s governing body and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game.

The platform, located on the western side of the sleek stadium, will project about 5m beyond the edge of the roof and give tour groups uninterrupted Citywide views.

‘The West Australian’ further stated that guests will be required to wear a safety harness while on the roof above the field of play, but can walk freely throughout the rest of the experience.

The adventure-seekers can also lean out from a rail-less platform towards the playing field. It’ll also be wheelchair accessible, with construction of a new lift set starting.

Tickets will cost $109 for adults and $66 for children. Prices will be higher for matchdays and special events. The rooftop walk will be open all year round, not just when events are being held in the arena.

Sports Minister Tony Buti said the Optus Stadium roof walk would rival Kalbarri’s new skywalk for Western Australia’s best view – “It will create probably the best rooftop viewing experience in the world.”

Added Buti, “One of the great stadiums of the world with this new viewing platform, which would be like a bit of a beer can shape where you pull the can open – it’ll be shaped like that – and you’ll be able to experience a 360 degree view experience of Perth.”

Optus Stadium Chief Executive Mike McKenna said the roof walk, which is in addition to the stadium’s existing 90-minute HALO rooftop tour, would open in time for the start of next year’s AFL season.

McKenna added, “These attractions, you know, I think that the talk about ring pulls, top of the world experiences – they’re all part of the story of what’s on offer. The real story and the real nickname is what you give it yourself when you’ve had that experience.”

The head honcho concluded, “I’d encourage everyone – all ages, all abilities – that have the opportunity to come up on the roof, have a look around, see Perth from a different angle and have a look at this City that we all love. It’s one of the most beautiful Cities in the world from the most beautiful stadium in the world.”
