State-of-the-art race track at Qiddiya

A new and modern race track at Qiddiya is being born in Saudi Arabia, close to the place where the Dakar Rally ended on March 25^th. The project is designed to host Formula 1, but those responsible for it also aim at the MotoGP World Championship.

The ‘Motorcycle Sports’ stated that the Qiddiya Investment Company CEO explained that the goal is to host major international motorsport events, including MotoGP in the examples he mentioned – “We’re building the facilities so that we can ultimately host the biggest and the best motor sports events, really in all categories. And Grade 1 is, you know, synonymous with F1, so we’re hopeful that that comes to pass for us. Our project in Qiddiya is on pace for a very large first phase offering, and that’ll be ready at the beginning of 2023.”

Qiddiya is an entertainment mega project to be established in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). Construction started in the beginning of 2019. The project is one of the tourism mega projects to be established in Saudi Arabia in the framework of the Saudi Vision 2030 which aims to diversify the income resources of the country.

Formula One (F1) is the highest class of international racing for open-wheel single-seater formula racing cars sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile.

Grand Prix Motorcycle Racing or famously called MotoGP is the highest class of motorcycle road racing championship sanctioned by the FIM (Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme). The MotoGP championship also boasts of being the oldest racing championship in the world which started in 1949.

Currently, MotoGP has only one round in the Middle East, going to Qatar annually. The Losail track is the only one that hosts night races, having never before had a race in that region of the planet. The interest in hosting the championship has grown in recent years, with several countries evincing keen interest.

The 8,000-capacity Losail International Circuit is a motor racing circuit located just outside in the town of Lusail, North of Doha, Qatar. Built in just under a year by 1,000 workers at the cost of US$58 million, the track opened in 2004 to the inaugural 2004 Qatar Motorcycle Grand Prix, won by Sete Gibernau (Spanish motorcycle racer).
