Birmingham’s Edgbaston Stadium (UK) has unveiled its new plaza and entrance, representing one of the largest outdoor community spaces in the City.

The ‘Insider Media Limited’ stated that totaling approximately 159,000 sq ft, the Edgbaston Plaza is the first stage to complete within the new Edgbaston Stadium Masterplan, which includes PATRIZIA’s development of 375 build-to-rent apartments and units for a retail and leisure destination.

The 25,000-capacity Edgbaston Cricket Ground, also known as the County Ground or Edgbaston Stadium, is a cricket ground in the Edgbaston area of Birmingham, England (UK). It is home to the Warwickshire County Cricket Club and its T20 team Birmingham Bears.

The Warwickshire County Cricket Club is one of 18 first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Warwickshire. Its T20 team is called the Birmingham Bears.

The ‘Insider Media Limited’ further stated that the development of the plaza has involved the previous brick walls along Edgbaston Road, and the building within the former car park, being demolished to open up access and views to the stadium.

Additionally, there are new disabled parking bays and charging points for electric vehicles through official energy partner Drax, which will be installed shortly.

Commented Craig Flindall, Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Edgbaston, “When we started this latest phase of the Edgbaston Stadium Masterplan, we had a clear focus on ensuring that the new plaza would be the first stage to complete in order to bring forward the benefits for our community as soon as possible. Now that it’s part of the stadium footprint, we want to make the plaza one of the beating hearts of Edgbaston. Alongside improving the experience for spectators attending our many high-profile cricket fixtures, we want the space to host cultural festivals and events that bring people together from across the City and the local community.”

The Edgbaston Plaza and PATRIZIA’s Edgbaston scheme have been constructed by Winvic Construction Limited.

Added Richard Scutt, Director of Real Estate Development at PATRIZIA, “The opening of the plaza marks an exciting milestone in delivering our vision for a thriving year-round destination around Edgbaston Stadium, together with our partners at the Warwickshire County Cricket Club, Winvic, CRTKL, and Arcadis. We want to ensure each of our new residents, as well as the wider Edgbaston community, enjoys a happy, healthy and sustainable lifestyle and this attractive new landscaped outside space is a fundamental part of our wellbeing offer.”

Event spaces

The ‘edgbaston events’ stated that the newest space at Edgbaston, the Edgbaston Plaza, offers more space than both the Centenary Square and Victoria Square in Birmingham City Centre.

As one of the largest outdoor event spaces in Birmingham, the new entrance plaza offers the versatility to host a wide range of large-scale events, including cultural festivals, outdoor cinemas, markets, and fun fairs.

Shaping an event

The ‘edgbaston events’ further stated that the Edgbaston Stadium team will work closely with interested parties to shape their event and create a great experience for those attending. With such a large area, they will be able to accommodate a wide range of requests and will do everything they can to help execute the vision.
