The Paris (France)-based design studio Chaix & Morel has landed the project for redevelopment of the Stade du Moustoir in Lorient, France, digs of the Ligue 1 club FC Lorient. The Municipality of Lorient has appointed Chaix & Morel as the Project Manager of the development.

‘Chaix et Morel’ stated that the repurposing work will be carried out in three phases and is scheduled to be completed in the year 2028. The project price tag has been pegged at €41.27m (£35.5m/$45m).

Founded in 1983, the Paris (France)-based architecture firm Chaix & Morel was founded by Philippe Chaix and Jean-Paul Morel 40 years back. In its 40-year journey, the design studio has under its belt major projects like creating the 6,804-capacity Zénith Paris in Paris, France, for the Ministry of Culture, design of ThyssenKrupp Headquarters (landmark architecture) in Essen (Germany) and the renovation and extension of the La Banque Postale’s (French postal bank) headquarters in Paris, to name a few.

The Stade du Moustoir – Yves Allainmat, known as the Stade du Moustoir, is a multiuse stadium in Lorient, France. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home stadium of FC Lorient. The stadium can hold up to 18,110 spectators with the new South stand coming up.

Football Club Lorient Bretagne Sud, commonly referred to as FC Lorient or simply Lorient, is a French professional association football club based in Lorient, Brittany. The club was founded in 1926 and currently competes in Ligue 1, the top flight of French football, following promotion from Ligue 2 in the 2019-2020 seasons. Lorient plays its home matches at the Stade Yves Allainmat, named after the former Mayor of Lorient. The stadium is surnamed Stade du Moustoir because of its location within the City.

‘Chaix et Morel’ further stated that said the shape and façade of the stadium will be reinterpreted with a ribbon of vertical wood and recycled aluminum slats. With subtle variations, this simple and contemporary envelope will make for a unique architectural work.

A skate park will also come up and the spruced-up Stade du Moustoir will enliven the ambience of the French town Lorient and the plan is to transform the venue in a manner that it remains open 365 days in a year. The new-look stadium will add more vigor to the Lorient Interceltic Festival which takes place every year in August.

The last spruce-up work of the stadium was carried out in the year 2010.
