Munich Olympic Park extensive rejig plans

The City Council has decided to take up extensive remodeling work of the Olympic Park in Munich, Germany.

‘Olympiapark München’ quoted Verena Dietl, Chairwoman of the Supervisory Board of Olympiapark München GmbH and Sports Mayor of the City of Munich as stating, “I am very pleased that the City Council has decided to go in for extensive renovation of the Olympic Park. The rejig work will further consolidate the foothold of the venue as an event and leisure center as well as a world-renowned tourist destination for many years to come and would also prove to be a shot in the arm for the City of Munich.”

The 69,250-capacity Olympiapark in Munich, Germany, is an Olympic Park which was constructed for the 1972 Summer Olympics. Located in the Oberwiesenfeld (airfield) neighborhood of Munich, the Park continues to serve as a venue for cultural, social and religious events, such as events of worship.

‘Olympiapark München’ further stated that the refurbishment work would include adding tech bells and whistles to the facility, upgrading the fire protection system and adding a futuristic touch to Levels 1 to 4 to streamline event operations as well as providing fans a comfy and enriching experience.

Maintained Marion Schöne, Managing Director of Olympiapark Munich GmbH, “The Munich Olympic Stadium live events calendar is chock-a-block this year – 11 open-air concerts – and more than 700,000 visitors have flocked the arena so far. Be it sporting events like the European Championships 2022 or open-air concerts, the stadium ambience reverberates with fans’ chants and exudes positive energy. I would like to thank the City Council on its above decision and once the extensive transformation work is over, we will be able to showcase the stadium even better and fill the venue calendar with not only major music acts and sporting showpieces, but also introduce new event formats.”

The revamp work is scheduled to start in Autumn this year and in October 2025 renovation work will be carried out full throttle with limited activities in the stadium to facilitate the repurposing work.

Concluded Schöne, “I am hopeful that the spruced-up stadium will be able to hold spectacular shows for fans by Summer 2027.”
