Allianz Arena capacity expansion plans

The Bundesliga giants FC Bayern Munich plans to expand the capacity of its residence – the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany – this Summer.

‘kicker’ stated that as per a report, the seating area of the Allianz Arena would be converted to standing areas.

The FC Bayern Munich is a German professional sports club based in Munich, Bavaria (Germany). It is best known for its professional men’s football team, which plays in the Bundesliga, the top tier of the German football league system.

The Allianz Arena is a football stadium in Munich, Bavaria, Germany with a 70,000-seating capacity for international matches and 75,000 for domestic matches. Widely known for its exterior of inflated ethylene tetraflurorethylene (ETFE) plastic panels, it is the first stadium in the world with a full color changing exterior. It serves as the home stadium of the FC Bayern Munich.

‘kicker’ further stated that the capacity of the Allianz Arena will increase from 75,000 to 77,000 for domestic matches. The renovation is scheduled for this Summer. In addition to the standing room in the North Stand, the stadium has so far been equipped with seats in the corners – for now. There should also be standing room in the corner space in the future.

Because the seating area takes up almost half of the space, 2,500 seats become 4,500 standing places. However, the views of the fans will be taken into consideration before going ahead with the standing area plans.
 

Signal Iduna Park Numero Uno

In 2015, Bayern, whose home games have always been sold out this season, increased capacity for the last time: From 71,168 to 75,000. So far, the arena has held 70,000 spectators in the European Cup and the World Cup.

The UEFA Champions League is UEFA’s elite club competition with top clubs across the continent playing for the right to be crowned European champions. The tournament, earlier called the European Cup, began in 1955-1956 with 16 sides taking part.

It governs football, futsal and beach football in Europe and the transcontinental countries of Turkey, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Russia, and Kazakhstan, as well as some Asian countries such as Israel, Cyprus and Armenia. The UEFA consists of 55 national association members. Because of the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, FIFA and UEFA suspended all Russian national teams and clubs from any FIFA and UEFA competitions.

Even after the expansion, the Allianz Arena will not be able to match up to the 81,365-capacity Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund, Germany. Thanks to the significantly larger number of standing places (28,337), the Signal Iduna Park is maintaining its numero uno position in Germany as far as the capacity is concerned for the time being.
