The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Governing Board approved the Alpes 2030 Paralympic Winter Games venue masterplan at a meeting held recently in Bonn, Germany.

The above showcase will be held at the ski resorts of France which are a vision.

Paralympic Venue Masterplan

‘INTERNATIONAL PARALYMPIC COMMITTEE’ stated that since July 2025, the Alpes 2030 Organising Committee has been reviewing its Paralympic venue masterplan first presented as part of its bid in 2024.

Key Learnings

The purpose of the exercise – which considered key learnings from Milano Cortina 2026 and consultation with the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), International Federations, public authorities, and the National Paralympic Committee of France – has been to understand the opportunities as well as the challenges of the initial bid plan.

Bonn (Germany)-based the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) is an international nonprofit organization and the global governing body for the Paralympic Movement.

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Governing Board is the main leadership and decision-making body that manages the IPC between meetings of its General Assembly. It directs the global Paralympic Movement, handles policy and financial oversight and ensures the successful delivery of the Paralympic Games.

The 2030 Winter Paralympics, also known as the Alpes 2030 Paralympic Winter Games, will be the 15th edition of the Winter Paralympic Games, an international winter multisport parasports event governed by the International Paralympic Committee. The Games are scheduled to take place from March 1st-10th, 2030 in the French Alps. These will be the second Winter Paralympics and the third Paralympics overall to be hosted by France.

The 2026 Winter Olympics, officially the XXV Olympic Winter Games and commonly known as Milano Cortina 2026, was an international winter multisport event held from February 6th-22nd, 2026, at multiple sites across Lombardy, Veneto and Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol in Italy with competition in selected events beginning on February 4th, 2026.

Athlete Experience

The new venue masterplan put forward by Alpes 2030 presents an enhanced concept on athlete experience, convenience for all the Games stakeholders and reduced complexity.

Competition Clusters

With the International Paralympic Committee’s approval the Alpes 2030 Paralympic Winter Games will be organized around three competition clusters: The Haute-Savoie Cluster, the Savoie Cluster and the Lyon Cluster.

Haute-Savoie Cluster

‘INTERNATIONAL PARALYMPIC COMMITTEE’ further stated that the Para biathlon and the Para cross-country skiing will be based in the Haute-Savoie Cluster with both sports taking place at the La Clusaz Nordic Centre (a premier cross-country skiing and winter sports destination in the French Alps). The centre is located at a height 500m higher than the originally proposed venue. It ensures Alpes 2030 can leverage an Olympic venue and provide a compact format for the Para biathlon and the Para cross-country skiing events.

Savoie Cluster

The Savoie Cluster will host the Para alpine skiing at the Courchevel Para Alpine Skiing Centre (a French Alps ski resort) and the Para snowboard competition at the Courchevel Snowboard Centre (a designated competition venue within the Savoie cluster for the French Alps 2030 Paralympic Winter Games hosting the Para snowboard events). Hosting both sports in one resort will create operational efficiency while providing world class conditions at one of France’s premiere ski resorts.

Lyon Cluster

In Lyon, France’s third biggest city, the Para ice hockey and wheelchair curling competitions will be contested at the Eurexpo Exhibition Centre (a major convention and exhibition park located in Chassieu, France, near Lyon). Boasting excellent accessible public transport links the Eurexpo Exhibition Centre will provide the spectators with two world-class sports under one roof and offer operational synergies for the Organising Committee.

‘Unforgettable Stage’

Commented Colleen Wrenn, Executive Director, Paralympic Games, “The IPC is fully supportive of Alpes 2030’s venue masterplan as it will significantly consolidate the Games footprint, lessen the logistical challenges and improve the overall Games experience, especially for the athletes. We congratulate Alpes 2030 for its wide-ranging consultation, for incorporating key learnings from Milano Cortina 2026 and securing the approval of the relevant International Federations. Alpes 2030’s venue masterplan will provide an unforgettable stage for the Paralympians combining France’s world-famous ski resorts and beautiful scenery with one of the country’s most historical cities.”

‘Athlete-focused’

Added Edgar Grospiron, President, Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Alpes 2030, “This venue masterplan reflects our ambition to deliver Paralympic Winter Games that are compact, efficient and athlete-focused. By bringing together the very best venues across the French Alps within three complementary clusters we are simplifying the operations, optimizing travel and creating the best possible conditions for sporting performance. From the slopes of La Clusaz and Courchevel to the vibrant city of Lyon this project highlights the excellence of our regions and their ability to welcome the world. It will provide the Paralympians, the spectators and the entire Games family with a memorable experience that truly reflects the ambition of Alpes 2030.”
