Infrastructure Milano Cortina 2020-2026 Spa, the company to oversee infrastructure for the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics (Italy), has been established following a meeting of ministers and stakeholders.

‘inside the games’ stated that this was formalized at the Ministry of Sustainable Infrastructures and Mobility (MIT) meeting in Rome (Italy) and was attended by the Minister of the department, Enrico Giovannini.

The 2026 Winter Olympics, officially the XXV Olympic Winter Games and also known as Milano Cortina 2026, are an upcoming international multisport event scheduled to take place from February 6th to February 22nd, 2026 in the Italian Cities of Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo.

‘inside the games’ further stated that Filippo Giansante, representing the Ministry of Economy and Finance, President of the Lombardy Region Attilio Fontana and President of the Veneto Region Luca Zaia were all present as stakeholders to sign the agreement.

Also in attendance were President of the Autonomous Province of Trento, Maurizio Fugatti, and the Vice-President of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, Daniel Alfreider.

Said Giovannini, “It is an important day. The birth of the company will allow us to pass to the operational phase for the realization of the works. But to make up for the delay accumulated in recent years, we will have to speed up numerous steps and a strong team spirit will have to prevail. The appointment of a Commissioner will speed up the planning and construction process of the works financed up to now, but we have included additional resources in the budget bill to allow Italy to fully respect the commitments it has made towards the International Olympic Committee (IOC).”

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is a non-Governmental sports organization based in Lausanne, Switzerland. It is constituted in the form of an association under the Swiss Civil Code.

The company was incorporated following a meeting attended by the Mayor of Cortina d’Ampezzo, Gianpietro Ghedina, the Italian National Olympic Committee President, Giovanni Malagò, and the Chief Executive of the company (Infrastructure Milano Cortina 2020-2026 Spa), Luigi Valerio Sant’Andrea.

For the period from 2022 to 2025, there will be a €324 million (£272 million/$364 million) budget available to complete planned works and resolve any infrastructure issues.

A budget in 2020 allocated €1 billion (£839 million/£1.12 billion) of funds towards infrastructure for the Games, followed by an additional $145 million (£122 million/$163 million) for 2021 contributed by the State for sports facilities.

The Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics are scheduled to take place from February 6th to February 22nd, 2026, followed by the Paralympics from March 6th to March 15th, 2026.
