The grand opening of FC Bayern Basketball’s SAP Garden on October 3rd will offer fans the chance to watch the stars of Real Madrid as the new EuroLeague season faces off.

FC Bayern Basketball said that as well as the highlight game there will be a large supporting program around the SAP Garden premiere including a surprise concert after the game.

SAP Garden is a new 11,500-seat indoor sports arena in Munich’s (Germany) Olympic Park. It’s being built on the site of the former Radstadion, which was demolished in 2015.

The arena will be the new home for the ice hockey team Red Bulls Munich and will also serve as the home venue for FC Bayern Basketball.

Red Bull Munich is a professional ice hockey team based in Munich, Germany. The club is a member of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga, the highest level of play in professional German ice hockey.

FC Bayern Basketball, commonly referred to as Bayern Munich, is a professional basketball club, a part of the FC Bayern Munich sports club, based in Munich, Germany.

The club competes domestically in the Basketball Bundesliga (the highest level league of professional club basketball in Germany) and internationally in the EuroLeague (a European men’s professional basketball club competition). The 6,500-capacity BMW Park in Munich serves as their residence.

SAP Garden can accommodate up to 11,500 spectators, with a maximum capacity of 10,796 for ice hockey matches. The main building measures 29 meters from the ice surface to the hall ceiling.

From the 2024-2025 seasons, all Red Bull Munich home games will be played in the SAP Garden. In addition, at least 20 FC Bayern Basketball home games and up to 40 sporting or sports-related events will be held in the venue every year.

An extensive agreement has been reached with the City of Munich, and the arena will cover more than 8,000 hours of ice time.

Advance sales for the Grand Opening in the new Superhalle on the Munich Olympic Park site begin on July 31st.

The EuroLeague match days will primarily take place in the SAP Garden, the German champions’ second venue next to the tried and tested BMW Park.

The new EuroLeague calendar includes eight double game weeks until April 10th. After the Real opener, FCBB has to play away twice, against Panathinaikos Athens and Partizan Belgrade.

The second home game will be on October 17th against EuroCup winners Paris. Defending champions Panathinaikos will be in Munich the day after Christmas, the first German derby against Berlin will take place in the SAP Garden on November 14th.
