Richtfest im SAP Garden Image: SAP Garden

A very unconventional kind of adrenaline-rush ‘topping-out ceremony’ took place at the SAP Garden construction site in Munich (Germany) on the occasion of the completion of their roof structure recently.

‘SAP garden’ stated that two Red Bull Skydive pilots – Marco Waltenspiel and Max Manow – landed on the roof of the under-construction multifunctional sports arena and delivered the last nut for the steel roof truss of the facility and the roof work is now completed.

The SAP Garden is a multifunctional sports arena under construction in Munich’s (Germany) Olympic Park that will be used by the Red Bull Munich as a new ice hockey venue and by FC Bayern’s Bundesliga basketball team. It is scheduled to open in Spring 2024.

The Olympiapark in Munich, Germany, is an Olympic Park which was constructed for the 1972 Summer Olympics. Located in the Oberwiesenfeld neighborhood of Munich, the Park continues to serve as a venue for cultural, social and religious events, such as events of worship. It includes a contemporary carillon.

The Eishockey club Red Bull München is a professional ice hockey team based in Munich, Germany. The club is a member of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga, the highest level of play in professional German ice hockey. Between 2016 and 2018, the club has won three DEL titles in a row, as well as the German Cup in 2010. The 6,256-capacity Olympia Eishalle serves as their home venue.

The FC Bayern München Basketball GmbH, commonly referred to as Bayern Munich, is a professional basketball club, a part of the FC Bayern Munich sports club, based in Munich, Germany. The club competes domestically in the Basketball Bundesliga (highest level league of professional club basketball in Germany) and internationally in the EuroLeague. The 6,700-capacity Audi Dome in Munich serves as their digs.

Symbol of Prestige

‘SAP garden’ quoted Christian Winkler, Managing Director, Sports Red Bull Ice Hockey, as stating that the “under-construction multifunctional sports arena will be one of the top-of-the breed venues in Europe”.

From now until July 25th, 2024 (12 pm) there is a ticket raffle on sapgarden.com. Fans have the chance to win 100 special tickets for the big SAP Garden opening event scheduled for 2024.

Steel Roof

Since November 2022, 18 trusses, each weighing almost 170 tons, have been lifted and installed for the roof installation work of the SAP Garden. Now, in May 2023, the last 100 grams of a total of 3,000 tons of steel was installed. The last nut that Marco Waltenspiel and Max Manow delivered has been also been installed and the steel roof work of the facility is over.

Have a ‘Bowl’

When the SAP Garden goes into stream in 2024, fans and spectators will be able to enjoy top-class sports, action, gaming, bountiful cuisine, and entertainment in the ‘Bowl’. The arena will boast three additionally covered ice rinks and it will be bang for the bucks for fans visiting the arena.

Put in Verena Dietl, Munich’s Third Mayor, “The SAP Garden once it opens its gates will become a kind of sports and entertainment hub and will be a jewel on Munich City’s crown. Professional ice hockey and basketball, ice skating and several other activities will make the arena come alive.”

The hospitality areas of the arena – as the renderings revealed – are a marvel and the VIP space exemplary.

Vantage Viewing

Fans of the Red Bull Munich ice hockey club can already book their season tickets for the 2024-2025 seasons after a virtual view of their seats with the help of the digital arena map.

Added Winkler, “With the roof of the SAP Garden complete, it is almost the dawn of a new era.”
