Celta to stay long haul in Balaídos Stadium

The Spanish professional football club Celta and the Vigo City Council recently formalized the start of the procedures to make official the new concession of their home ground – the Balaídos Stadium in Vigo, Spain.

‘CELTA’ stated that in this regard an event was held at the Sky Marcador Club, one of the VIP areas of the Vigo venue. The event was attended by the club’s President, Marián Mouriño, and Vigo’s Mayor, Abel Caballero, who addressed the newsmen present. The new agreement represents a historic milestone for the club and marks a turning point in its institutional, sporting and social projection.

The Real Club Celta de Vigo, commonly known as Celta Vigo or just Celta, is a Spanish professional football club based in Vigo, Galicia (Spain) that competes in the LaLiga, the top tier of Spanish football.

The Balaídos Stadium, known as the Estadio Abanca Balaídos for sponsorship reasons, is an all-seater stadium located in Vigo, Spain. It is owned by the Vigo City Council and is the home of the LaLiga club Celta Vigo. The stadium opened in 1928 and currently accommodates 24,870 spectators.

‘CELTA’ quoted Mouriño as stating in a presser, “Thanks to this agreement the new generations will be able to continue enjoying the Celta pitch prowess at Balaídos just as the dozens of Celta-supporting generations who have passed through the stadium since its construction. Our goal is to lay the foundations for the next 100 years for Celta and that is why this concession is so important.”

The agreement, which includes an initial 50-year concession extendable up to 75 years, grants Celta full use of the facilities and the possibility to develop its strategic project with the necessary support. This new phase, developed over a long period of time, allows the club to make full use of Balaídos for its operation and growth thus consolidating the foundations for a solid, sustainable future closely tied to its community.

Added Mayor Caballero, “I am very happy because we are launching an extraordinary process and project. We want to contribute to Celta’s economic and strategic stability. If there are no objections in the coming month this concession will automatically be officially ratified. Everything done with mutual respect is what succeeds.”

For Celta, this concession represents much more than an administrative agreement: It is a decisive step to secure the club’s next 100 years of existence. The long-term link with the stadium, which is an essential part of the club’s identity, guarantees the continuity of its legacy and reinforces its commitment to the city and its supporters.

As Mouriño explained to the media, this agreement ensures that the future generations will continue to see Celta play at Balaídos just as many generations of fans have done since the stadium was built.

The current concession, signed at the time by the club’s former President, Carlos Mouriño, and Mayor Abel Caballero, was set to expire in 2034. With the new agreement the Celta gains long-term stability and strengthens its commitment to continue growing alongside the Vigo City Council ensuring that the stadium remains the meeting point for the entire Celta community.
