Leicester City’s Premier League winning footballer Christian Fuchs has revealed he is opening an Esports arena in New York City, according to media reports.

Speaking at the SportsPro Live event at The O2 in London, Fuchs said he has already secured 36 acres of land for the project which will comprise of an Esports stadium and a hotel – and will be the only dedicated Esports arena in New York.

“We’re talking with partners right now and it’s a very exciting project,” said Fuchs. “We have the structure and everything is in place. It’s going to be beautiful; like a football stadium or a gladiator arena. And with my connections in the football industry I can give it good exposure. That’s my part in it.”

Explaining the choice of venue, Fuchs said that Esports are currently bigger in the US than here [the UK] which in turn gives a lot more areas to exploit.

Fuchs has already invested in his own Esports team, aptly named No Fuchs Given, and believes that competitive gaming has a huge future, and can generate huge content revenues for established sports teams.

“Having an Esports team associated with your club can help you [generate a fanbase] and content … People want to see the faces behind the FIFA players. It can be very profitable for any football team,” he said.

More details about the project will be revealed at the forthcoming Coliseum Summit US, Las Vegas, Nevada, US on August 28-29, 2019.
