Jacopo Romeo speaks with a lot of passion and conviction. Full of ardor he stated that the Serie A team Udinese Calcio (Italy) is very much invested in the community and actively participates in community initiatives.

Romeo states with a sense of pride that though the top-flight comes from a small City in Italy (Udine) but “the Udinese Calcio have participated 11 times in the European club competition and this has happened due to the club’s positive mindset and positive approach”.

Jacopo Romeo is the Director of Communications of the Serie A team Udinese Calcio since 2019 and is very well-versed in the art of communication.

In a chat with ‘Coliseum’, Jacopo Romeo, Director of Communications, Udinese Calcio, Italy, states that the Serie A club Udinese Calcio is guided by one mantra in life – innovation and puts in, “From innovation starts everything. Our policies, the commitment towards sustainability and our community endeavors. Innovation is our mission.”

Udinese Calcio

The Udinese Calcio is a professional football club based in Udine, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy. The team currently competes in Serie A, the first tier of Italian football.

Bluenergy Stadium

The 25,144-capacity Bluenergy Stadium is an all-seater football stadium in Udine, Italy, and the home of the Serie A club Udinese Calcio.

Brand Factor

Jacopo Romeo began by asserting that, “We believe in making innovation a brand identity of the club and also want to bring in a sense of business to Italian football.”

He said that the Udinese Calcio believes in “investing on the pitch, hunting for the best talent and developing them into top-notch players and selling them to the top-of-the-heap clubs”. He terms it as the evolution of the brand.

Turning Point

Prior to 2016 the Udinese home was known as the Stadio Friuli – “The turning point was 2016. We were the first Italian football stadium to have naming rights and the Stadio Friuli came to be known as the Dacia Arena with the Dacia brand of Renault (French multinational automobile manufacturer) securing the rights in 2016. We are also the second club-owned stadium in Italy.”

Family-friendly

Remarked Romeo, “Ours is a family-friendly venue. We have a stand devoted exclusively to the families and we also have a strong sense of belonging with the community and want to open up floodgates of opportunities for them.”

The club is also very much invested into B2B relationship and since the club is open 365 days in a year more than 150 corporate events are held as well as national and international conventions.

Sustainability First

Added Romeo, “We are the most sustainable club in Italy and fourth in the world after the LaLiga team Real Madrid CF (Spain) and the first in Italy to be elected by the Brand Finance Football Sustainability Index not only for environmental sustainability but also for social sustainability and for the sustainability of our governance and we are one of the first clubs to adopt the Union of European Football Association’s (UEFA’s) Carbon Footprint Calculator.”

Solar Park

The Udinese home came to be known as the Bluenergy Stadium after the club entered into a new naming rights deal with the Italian company the Bluenergy Group in September 2023.

The Udinese are truly an innovative club and the 1.1 MW photovoltaic (PV) solar park project on the roof of the Udinese Calcio’s Bluenergy Stadium in Italy has been completed.

Informed Romeo, “The solar park is a unique project in Italy and one of the first in Europe and it boasts not just solar panels but 12 generators capable to generate more than 1 million kilowatt of energy per year.”

The Energy Community

The sports facility will absorb about 70 percent of the energy generated by the plant while the remaining 30 percent will be made available to the Energy Community and the completion of the solar park best demonstrates the club’s commitment to sustainability.

Wrap-up

Jacopo Romeo summed up by stating, “Innovation is our mission and the key to generating new revenue streams. The Bluenergy Stadium wants to unite the community and to create a sense of belonging outside of the matchdays and outside of football. Our Solar Park will further strengthen our bond with the community.”
