Víctor Sendra Peretó is a value-driven person who is guided by values and makes decisions based on them. Peretó who is a part of the team working on the under-construction Roig Arena in Valencia, Spain, and holds a key post, believes that a venue should not just be a structure holding various events but it will have to “give back to the community on which it sits”.

Peretó asserts that Valencia Basket, the professional basketball team from Valencia, Spain, is a club with a “humane face”.

Víctor Sendra Peretó holds the position of Director of the Roig Arena (Valencia, Spain). His key responsibilities include the future management and operation of the venue. He has been involved in the project since the year 2017.

Víctor Sendra Peretó, Director, Roig Arena, Spain, in a no-holds-barred conversation with ‘Coliseum’ points out that while taking up a venue project it is very important for the team/operator working on the development to know about the culture, traditions and values of the particular City/community on which the stadium will sit. He also pointed out that the real heroes of a venue project are not the top honchos but the construction crew who work by the sweat of their brows to bring the project to fruition.

Valencia Basket

The Valencia Basket Club S.A.D., commonly known as Valencia Basket, is a professional basketball team based in Valencia, Spain. The team plays in the Liga ACB, the top professional basketball division of the Spanish basketball league system and they play their home games at the 9,000-capacity Font de Sant Lluís in Valencia. The club is owned by the retail tycoon Juan Roig.

Roig Arena

The 15,600-capacity Roig Arena, previously proposed as the Casal España Arena, is a multipurpose indoor arena under construction in Valencia, Spain, which is expected to open by the first half of 2025. The Roig Arena will serve as the home base for both the men’s and women’s Valencia Basket Club teams.

Remarked Víctor Sendra Peretó, “We are constructing an indoor venue but the people of Valencia are outdoorsy. We are working on the venue project with tourism, entertainment and sports being the crux.”

The Roig Arena is a fan-focused arena and the acoustic design has been developed to ensure a vibrant atmosphere for sports and optimal conditions for concerts. The stadium will host a variety of events including music, arts, culture, and sports.

Turning Point

The project is the baby of Juan Roig Alfonso and has been dedicated to him. Peretó narrated that “In 1986, the Valencia Basket got relegated to the second division. But their moment of glory came when they became the champions in the 2016-2017 leagues and it was then that the Owner Juan Roig Alfonso decided to invest in a new venue – a kind of state-of-the-art, flexible space that can host a wide variety of events.”

He informed that a school for the community is also being built as part of the project and the venue will be used for sports, entertainment and corporate events and the project price tag stands at $305 M.

Culture-Community

Peretó further narrated that the Valencia Basket made it clear right from the beginning to the design firms working on their venue project – the international design studio HOK and the local design firm ERRE – that they will have to be “well-versed with the local culture and traditions of the community and the people of the City of Valencia”.

Borrowing Ideas

The top official averred that at Valencia Basket they do not “believe in copying from others but we have just taken few pages out of the 17,000-capacity Uber Arena in Berlin, Germany, only the concept part”.

Pearls of Wisdom

Peretó asserted that it is imperative while embarking on a stadium project to be “focused on the fact that the facility will be a multipurpose one holding various events and most venue operators/owners lose sight of this vital point. We should not just be grateful to the big design houses and the big venue operators but also to the grassroot level people – the construction crew who are the driving force behind a venue project. Networking also plays a pivotal part in a development project as we can meet like-minded people and help them and get help in return.”

Sum-up

Remarked Peretó, “The community should feel proud about the venue. The Roig Arena project biggest gift to the community is the Public School Les Arts. The Valencia Basket is a club who always has the community uppermost in its mind.”

A totally down to earth person, Víctor Sendra Peretó underlined that people should never forget their roots – “If we forget our roots we can never progress in life and we can never stay in harmony with the community and the society. The biggest state-of-the-art venue – the Roig Arena – will open in 2025 and we want that the fans coming to the venue should have an emotional connect with the arena. And Valencia Basket will make it happen as it is a club who lends an ear to everybody.”
