Coopers Stadium decked up for FIFA showcase

Upgrades to Coopers Stadium have started in preparation for the FIFA Women’s World Cup™ in 2023. The South Australian State Government recently announced funding of $52 million to upgrade the arena as part of the commitment to host games for one of the largest events on the planet.

The Coopers Stadium is a multipurpose stadium in Hindmarsh, an inner western suburb of Adelaide, South Australia. It is the home of the Australian A-League team, Adelaide United. The stadium has a capacity of 16,500, of which 15,000 is seated.

The Adelaide United Football Club is a professional soccer club based in Adelaide, South Australia, Australia. The club participates in the A-League under licence from the Australian Professional Leagues.

The 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup™ is scheduled to be the ninth edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup™, the quadrennial world championship for women’s national football teams organized by FIFA. The tournament will be jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand and is scheduled to take place from July 20^th to August 20^th, 2023.

‘Football Australia’ stated that improvements that will be made include:

Refurbishment of changing rooms;
New shade covering on Eastern grandstand;
Full replacement of the pitch;
New arena lighting;
New media and corporate facilities;
Upgraded sound system;
Upgrade LED system;
New turnstiles;
New function space in Eastern grandstand; and
Two new video replay screens.

This investment will breathe new life into the iconic Adelaide venue, and will provide an enriching experience to fans that will arrive on the stadium doorstep for the FIFA spectacle.

‘Football Australia’ further stated that seven Australian Cities and eight stadia were chosen after an intense review process, with Adelaide awarded rights as one of the Australian Host Cities for the expanded version of the quadrennial world championship for women’s football which will see 32 nations compete for world championship honors in front of a massive global audience.
