A company that immerses fans in sports and entertainment viewing events with light-emitting diode (LED) technology announced recently that its fourth venue in the United States is planned for Detroit.

A target opening date has not yet been set.

‘DETROIT METROTIMES’ stated that Cosm’s latest location is planned for the Campus Martius area (City park) in Detroit through a partnership with Dan Gilbert’s (American businessman) Bedrock real estate arm and the local architecture firm ROSSETTI.

Los Angeles (US)-based Cosm is a global technology company that builds end-to-end solutions for immersive experiences. They provide a full stack experience solution including the physical design, engineering and manufacturing as well as the software, display engine and content needs to deliver immersive experiences at scale. Its technology enables people to experience entertainment in a new way across three primary markets: Sports and Entertainment, Science and Education and Parks and Attractions.

Fusing the best of at-home and in-stadium experiences, Cosm transports audiences into the hearts of the world-renowned stadiums, arenas and venues around the globe through partnerships with the iconic leagues and the broadcasters.

Bedrock is a full-service commercial real estate firm based in downtown Detroit (US) specializing in the strategic development of urban cores.

Detroit (US)-based ROSSETTI is a collective of studios with expertise in planning, architecture, interiors, and analytics. They are known globally for their expertise in the design of sports and entertainment venues. However, their location in Detroit allows them to have a strong impact on the local culture and economic vitality.

‘DETROIT METROTIMES’ further stated that the above follows venues in Los Angeles and Dallas as well as a recently announced location in Atlanta.

The venues use what the company calls ‘Shared Reality’ including a massive LED dome and an adjacent hi-resolution LED wall to create “an experience that bridges the virtual and physical worlds by merging state-of-the-art visuals with the energy of the crowd, world-class hospitality and an elevated food and beverage (F&B) service,” the company says.

Cosm’s President and head honcho Jeb Terry sent out a statement which read, “I can’t think of a better place than Detroit for our fourth venue. Detroit embodies the right mix of sports fandom, enterprising spirit and energy and we are honored to be part of the downtown revitalization that Dan Gilbert and his team are driving. Cosm Detroit will be the always-on heartbeat of downtown offering unparalleled sports and entertainment experiences for the Detroiters to share together honoring the great history of the City while celebrating Detroit today and its incredibly bright future.”

The programing is anticipated to include a slate of live sports as well as arts and culture events like the Cirque du Soleil performances and other “immersive” art experiences from the Cosm Studios Creator Program.

The Cirque du Soleil is a Canadian entertainment company and the largest contemporary circus producer in the world. Located in the inner-City area of Saint-Michel, Montreal, it was founded in Baie-Saint-Paul on June 16th, 1984 by the former street performers Guy Laliberté and Gilles Ste-Croix.

According to the company, “Shared Reality is a medium that makes fans feel like they have the best seats in the house even if they are 100s of miles away from the games being played.”

For the World Series, Cosm says it “put fans directly behind the home plate providing the best views of the action as if they were sitting in the ballpark.”

The home plate is a baseball term that refers to the base where the batter stands and the base that a base runner must touch to score a run.
