Six venues across Germany will host the 2027 International Handball Federation’s (IHF’s) Men’s World Championship with the final scheduled on January 31st, 2027 in Cologne. It will take place from January 1st-January 31st.

‘sportstravelmagazine.com’ stated that the 2027 IHF Men’s World Championship will begin in the 12,500-capacity SAP Garden in Munich (Germany) which opened recently as well as the 6,200-capacity Porsche-Arena in Stuttgart, the 13,500-capacity Wunderino-Arena in Kiel and the 8,071-capacity GETEC Arena in Magdeburg.

Basel (Switzerland)-based the International Handball Federation (IHF) is the administrative and controlling body for handball and beach handball.

The 2027 IHF World Men’s Handball Championship will be the 30th event hosted by the International Handball Federation (IHF). It will take place in Germany in January 2027.

‘sportstravelmagazine.com’ further stated that in those arenas the eight preliminary round groups will take place with two for each venue. The top three sides in each group will progress to the main round which will be played in the 20,000-capacity Lanxess Arena in Cologne and the 14,000-capacity ZAG-Arena in Hannover. The quarterfinals and semifinals as well as the placement and medal matches will take place in Cologne.

Informed Andreas Michelmann, President of the German Handball Federation, “We are touching the whole of Germany with this tournament. These venues unite many of the things that make us special: They are centers of the Bundesliga, they stand for tradition, but – like Munich with the new SAP Garden – also for modernity. With this great infrastructure we are ready for another highlight in the decade of handball.”

The Lanxess Arena hosted the final of this year’s men’s European handball championship between France and Denmark. The Lanxess Arena is the only EURO 2024 venue that will be used during the worlds in 2027.

The 2024 Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) European Football Championship, commonly referred to as UEFA EURO 2024, or simply EURO 2024, was the 17th UEFA European Championship, the quadrennial international football championship organized by the UEFA for the European men’s national teams of their member associations. Germany hosted the tournament which took place from June 14th-July 14th, 2024. The tournament involved 24 teams with Georgia making their European Championship debut.

Nyon (Switzerland)-based the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) is one of six continental bodies of governance in association football. It governs football, futsal and beach football in Europe and the transcontinental countries of Turkey, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Kazakhstan as well as the West Asian countries of Cyprus, Armenia and Israel. The UEFA consists of 55 national association members. Since 2022, due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the FIFA and UEFA suspended all Russian national teams and clubs from any FIFA and UEFA competitions.

Maintained Mark Schober, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the German Handball Federation, “The venues for the 2027 IHF Men’s World Championship reflect the high quality and versatility of Germany’s exceptional arena landscape each telling its own story. We look forward to welcoming 31 guest nations from around the world for whom we aim to provide the best possible conditions.”

Germany will host the Men’s World Championship for the eighth time following events in 1938, 1958, 1961, 1974, 1982, 2007, and 2019 co-hosting the competition with Denmark in the latter event.

In 2025, Germany will co-host the Women’s World Championship with the Netherlands while Hungary will host the 2027 women’s edition. Spain will host the women’s competition in 2029 while the 2031 edition will be co-hosted by the Czech Republic and Poland.
