The Western Province Rugby is officially the primary anchor tenant of the DHL Stadium following the signing of an Anchor Tenant Agreement with the City of Cape Town in South Africa.

‘IOL’ stated that it was made official recently but the agreement was already signed way back in 2019. The initial period will be for 39 years with an option to renew for a further two periods.

The Western Province is a South African professional rugby union team based in Newlands, Cape Town, South Africa, that participates in the annual Currie Cup and Vodacom Cup tournaments.

The Currie Cup is South Africa’s premier domestic rugby union competition, played each Winter and Spring, featuring teams representing either entire provinces or substantial regions within the provinces.

The 62,000-capacity DHL Stadium is an association football and rugby union stadium in Cape Town, South Africa, that was built for the 2010 FIFA World Cup™.

‘IOL’ further stated that Western Province Rugby will be playing an anticipated 12 to 15 matches a year at the stadium. It will include the United Rugby Championship, European Champions Cup and the Western Province matches in the Currie Cup.

If SA Rugby allocates Test matches to the Western Province Rugby Football Union, it could also be hosted at the stadium.

John Dobson, Stormers coach, said in a statement that his team is looking forward to what the future holds at their home ground – “The way that our team and our supporters have taken to the DHL Stadium has been incredible. We live in a beautiful City and play in an iconic stadium in front of the best fans in the world. We are all looking forward to making more great memories at the DHL Stadium in the years to come.”

The Stormers is a South African professional rugby union team based in Cape Town in the Western Cape that competes in the United Rugby Championship, a trans-hemispheric competition that also involves sides from Ireland, Italy, Scotland, and Wales. They competed in the Super Rugby competition until 2020.

The stadium will continue to host concerts and events in the future as well. It will also still host football matches of the Cape Town City F.C.

The Cape Town City Football Club is a South African professional football club based in Cape Town, South Africa, that plays in the Premier Soccer League (PSL). The original football club Cape Town City FC was founded in 1962, before being reformed in 2016. The team plays its home matches at the 55,000-capacity Cape Town Stadium in Cape Town, South Africa.
