The exact location of the new shared arena between the National Hockey League (NHL) team Philadelphia Flyers, the National Basketball Association (NBA) team Philadelphia 76ers and the city’s Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) expansion team has been decided: Where the Spectrum once stood in South Philadelphia (US).

‘CBS NEWS’ stated that the Comcast Spectacor and the Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment plan to build the new arena in the Southeast corner of Broad Street and Pattison Avenue next to the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA’s) Broad Street Line, a spokesperson confirmed.

The Philadelphia Flyers are a professional ice hockey team based in Philadelphia. The Flyers compete in the National Hockey League (NHL) as a Member of the Metropolitan Division in the Eastern Conference.

The 21,000-capacity Xfinity Mobile Arena is a multipurpose indoor arena located in Philadelphia, United States. It serves as the home of the National Hockey League (NHL) team Philadelphia Flyers.

The Philadelphia 76ers, known colloquially as the Sixers, are an American professional basketball team based in the Philadelphia Metropolitan area. The 76ers compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a Member of the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference. The Xfinity Mobile Arena serves as their home venue.

The Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) is a women’s professional basketball league in North America composed of 15 teams scheduled to expand to 18 by 2030. The WNBA is one of the professional women’s sports leagues in North America. The WNBA is headquartered in New York City.

Headquartered in Philadelphia (US) Comcast Spectacor owns and operates the Xfinity Mobile Arena and complex as well as a portfolio of professional sports teams that includes the National Hockey League (NHL) team Philadelphia Flyers.

Led by some of the best and brightest minds across a diverse spectrum of industries the Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment (HBSE) positions itself as one of the most pioneering, innovative global sports and entertainment businesses to date. The HBSE also strives to positively impact the local communities in which it operates through the powerful platform of sports.

‘CBS NEWS’ further stated that the construction timeline is about three years and the hope is to have the Philadelphia WNBA team debut at the arena in 2030, a spokesperson said.

The Xfinity Mobile Arena, which broke ground in 1994 and opened in 1996, would be demolished once the new arena is completed.

The Comcast Spectacor and the HBSE announced plans to build a new shared arena as part of a 50-50 partnership in January 2025. It came after the Sixers’ plans to build a new arena in Market East fell through.

The Mayor of Philadelphia Cherelle Parker came out in support of the new arena at the time calling it a “win, win, win, win for Philadelphia”.

The Comcast Spectacor owns naming rights for the arena and owns a minority stake in the Sixers.

The Xfinity Mobile Arena changed its name from the Wells Fargo Center on September 1st, 2025, through the 2030-2031 seasons.

The iconic Spectrum opened in 1967 and was home to the Flyers and Sixers until 1996 when the then-CoreStates Center opened.

The arena remained open until 2009 and was demolished in 2010.

Pearl Jam (American rock band) closed down the Spectrum with four concerts in five nights in October 2009.
