The IDOM has laid down four objectives as part of their plans to refurbish the above facility:

  • Rearrangement of the interior spaces;

‘IDOM’ further stated that redeveloping the interior spaces of the stadium will help in improving the operational aspects. It will also open up spaces for additional use. A new parking space will be created and a new media zone will also be set up. A reception area will also be set up so as to offer enhanced hospitality experiences to the fans on the upper floors of the venue.

  • Restoring the pristine sheen and heritage of the stadium;

The Manuel Martínez Valero Stadium, built in 1976, boasts a successful track record and enjoys high heritage value which has got a little blurred due to the modernization effects. The pristine sheen of the arena will be restored.

  • New façade for the historic building; and

A new façade will be created for the stadium thus lending it a traditional look. The original structure will be retained with the stands, the entrances and the circulation areas remaining intact and the venue will be adorned with a new-look skin which would be of a light character and will allow enough circulation of air and will envelop the stadium. The skin, to be formed by twisted white elements, will make the central area of the arena more transparent leaving much breathing space and elbow room. A new roof will come up covering the main stand.

  • A stadium with the 365 day element.

The layout of the outer skin of the stadium also allows the creation of a new atrium thus reinforcing the link between the stadium and its surroundings. The urban development will create a new living space for the stadium’s neighborhood and the City of Elche which will infuse the 365 day a year element into the venue and it will be abuzz with activities the whole year through and not just on matchdays. Green spaces will be created, leisure and sports activities will be introduced for the community and will help reap rich revenue.
