Three contractors have been shortlisted to deliver the redevelopment of Penrith Stadium in Penrith, New South Wales, Australia.

The Weekender has revealed that A W Edwards Pty Ltd, Hansen Yuncken and John Holland are the three shortlisted candidates.

The winning candidate will design and develop the stadium and associated entertainment precinct.

Penrith Stadium is a rugby league and association football stadium located in Penrith, New South Wales, Australia. The 22,500-capacity venue is the home ground for the Penrith Panthers who play in the National Rugby League (NRL).

Penrith Stadium is slated to become a superior venue for different forms of entertainment, significantly improving the experience for spectators, with more food outlets and amenities, new scoreboards and ribbon boards, sound systems, upgraded lighting and more recreation space.

Deputy Premier Prue Car said, “I am pleased to see another milestone reached for Penrith Stadium and look forward to seeing the feedback from locals bring this project to life.

“Not only does this upgrade promise a better stadium experience, it will also create more opportunities for concerts and events for western Sydney residents.”

The redevelopment will include a new western grandstand and refurbished eastern grandstand increasing the ground capacity to 25,000. Grandstands will reconfigured to maximise seating with premium views between the try lines to be steeper to bring fans closer to the action.

New player facilities including four new changerooms will help grow female representation in rugby league and other sporting codes.

Additionally, the training field to the west of the stadium will be remodelled to create new quality open spaces with multipurpose courts and improved landscaping for further outdoor community use and entertainment events.

The design prioritises accessibility, with a 500% increase in wheelchair accessible seating and an 85% increase in accessible toilets.

The Weekender further stated that after the completion of early works and site preparation, the successful contractor will begin the main works in early 2025 with the project expected to be completed in 2026.

More than 500 jobs will be created during construction, with a further 650 jobs to be supported once operational, providing a boost to the local economy.

Infrastructure NSW has appointed project architect Populous and landscape architect Tyrell Studio to work closely with the successful contractor to build the stadium and surrounding precinct.

Sports Minister Steve Kamper said, “This is a major milestone for the Penrith Stadium project, which aims to deliver the best suburban stadium in Australia to improve the family and fan experience on game days and year-round.

“While this upgrade will be an incredible boost for football fans and players, it is about more than just footy, we are building a multi-purpose entertainment precinct to cater for diverse audiences across western Sydney.

“I am proud to say the redevelopment will include new player facilities and changerooms to help grow female representation in sports, as well as catering to a range of fans with a 500 per cent increase in accessible seating and 85 per cent increase in accessible amenities.

“This re-imagining of Penrith Stadium will attract visitors far and wide and provide a massive boost to the local economy, building upon the already strong entertainment and sporting culture in western Sydney.”
