IDOM will design new stadium for Getafe CF Image: IDOM

Architect IDOM has been chosen to design Spanish football club Getafe CF’s new Coliseum Stadium in Madrid.

IDOM said the work, which began in June to completely transform the club’s current sports complex, will be carried out by construction company Amenabar and has an estimated timeframe of 30 months.

Getafe CF is a Spanish professional football club based in Getafe, a City in the Community of Madrid (Spain). They compete in LaLiga, the top tier of Spanish football. The team has played its home matches in the 16,500-capacity Coliseum Stadium since 1998.

IDOM is a multi-national corporation which provides consulting, engineering, and architecture services in Spain and internationally.

The new Coliseum will be a modern, functional and sustainable stadium, with capacity increased to 19,500 spectators.

There are plans to add a huge screen on the exterior, install a new roof to cover every fan on the terraces and put in 69 new state-of-the-art VIP boxes.

The design envisages the creation of a uniform ring of fully covered stands, the elimination of the perimeter pit, the installation of giant screens, VIP boxes and a wraparound façade with diagonal columns and translucent panels that will allow multimedia projections.

It will be more accessible, more comfortable and the public space around it will be improved, enhancing the connection between the urban fabric of Getafe and the nearby hill, with new possibilities of use for the local community.

The project will be developed in phases, allowing Getafe CF to continue to play its home matches while the works are being carried out.

This intervention is part of the agreement between LaLiga and the CVC Capital Partners fund, which has allowed Spanish clubs to invest in strategic infrastructure projects.

IDOM said in a statement, “At IDOM, we have approached this challenge with a comprehensive vision that combines architecture, engineering and sustainability.

“Our objective has been to provide the club with a facility that not only meets the standards of elite football, but also becomes an urban and social reference for the city of Getafe.

“This project reinforces IDOM’s position as a leader in the design of sports infrastructures at a national and international level, and consolidates our experience in the transformation of spaces that generate a positive impact on their surroundings.”
