Ahmedabad (in Gujarat, India) is all set to stage the third pink-ball Test between India and England on February 24^th, 2021, at the world’s largest cricket stadium – the Sardar Patel Stadium – the first of seven consecutive matches at the venue.

The 110,000-capacity majestic Sardar Patel Stadium is the biggest cricket venue in the world but will allow only 50 percent cricket-crazy fans for the third Test as the new COVID-19 variant rears its ugly head in few States of India.

The Sardar Patel Stadium, commonly known as Motera Stadium to avoid confusion with another stadium of the same name, is a cricket stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. It is the largest cricket stadium in the world and the second largest stadium overall, with a seating capacity for 110,000 spectators.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President, Sourav Ganguly, informed that all tickets for the third Test have been all “sold out”.

thenationalnews.com sources quoted Ganguly as saying, “Ahmedabad is completely sold out. The tickets have gone, as well as for the T20s which will follow the Tests.”

The stadium at Motera boast 11 pitches on the main turf, four dressing rooms, indoor nets, state-of-the-art drainage system and an Olympic-size swimming pool.

thenationalnews.com sources added that both teams will be in the City for a month as the gigantic facility hosts the final two Tests of the series and the subsequent five-match T20 clash.

The Sardar Patel Stadium trumps the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in Australia that can fit in 90,000 people.

indiatoday.in sources stated that England fast bowler Stuart Broad is so impressed with the new Sardar Patel Stadium in Motera that he thinks it can even outdo the Melbourne Cricket Ground in terms of crowd noise when at full capacity.

“I have to say that this new stadium at Motera, the biggest in the world, is so impressive that it has a bit of an aura about it even when empty. It’s like a coliseum. I can only imagine what it will be like at 50 percent capacity, with 55,000 people in, from Wednesday. And with 110,000, at a World Cup match later this year for example, I don’t know if we would be able to hear ourselves.”

indiatoday.in sources added that England all-rounder Ben Stokes was also hugely impressed with the stadium and wrote, “Some stadium this is and a bit of local music to help get through to the end”.

Team India players also showed their appreciation of the stadium with local boy Hardik Pandya putting out a post on social media.

“As if the stadium in itself wasn’t enough… the high performance gym set-up and surpassed all expectations. Magnificent!” he tweeted.

“It feels surreal to be out here at the world’s largest cricket stadium, Motera. Absolutely magnificent,” added Pandya.
