The 36th edition of the ‘Supercoppa Italiana’ will be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, featuring four top-notch teams of Italy – the Serie A clubs SSC Napoli, SS Lazio, Inter Milan, and ACF Fiorentina – for the first time in its history.

‘nogomania.com’ stated that the Italian Football League has announced a historic change for the upcoming Italian Super Cup (Supercoppa Italiana), set to take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from January 18th-22nd, 2024. For the first time in its 36 editions, the tournament will expand to include four teams. The Final Four will feature the above top-flights – SSC Napoli, the reigning champions of Italy, having won the Serie A title in the 2022-2023 seasons, SS Lazio, runners-up of the Serie A title in the 2022-2023 seasons, Inter Milan, who have won the Coppa Italia title nine times, and ACF Fiorentina, who reached the finals of the 2023 Coppa Italia.

The Supercoppa Italiana is an annual Super Cup tournament in Italian football. Founded in 1988 as a two-team competition, it will feature four teams from the 2023 edition onwards: The winners and runners-up of the previous season’s Serie A (the top of the Italian football league system) and Coppa Italia (the annual domestic cup of Italian football).

‘nogomania.com’ further stated that the first semifinal between SSC Napoli and ACF Fiorentina is scheduled for January 18th, followed by Inter Milan vs. SS Lazio on January 19th. The final will take place on January 22nd. All matches will be hosted at the 25,000-capacity Al-Awwal Park in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the home ground of the Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr FC which boasts soccer giants like Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcelo Brozović.

The 12th edition of Coliseum Summit MENA will be held on February 5th, 2024 at the Al-Awwal Park, Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

This new format for the Super Cup was decided in March 2023, but the competition dates were only recently finalized after negotiations between the clubs, the Italian league and the Saudi authorities.

Saudi is also hosting the Spanish Super Cup from January 10th-14th. According to Italian media reports, the teams will share a total of 23 million euros in prize money, with seven million allocated to the winner.

The Supercopa de España or the Spanish Super Cup is a Super Cup tournament in Spanish football. Founded in 1982 as a two-team competition, the current version has been contested since 2019-2020 by four teams: The winners and runners-up of the Copa del Rey (an annual knockout football competition in Spanish football) and LaLiga (the top men’s professional football division of the Spanish football league system).

The Italian Super Cup was first held in Saudi Arabia in 2018, following editions in Libya (2002), the United States (2003), China (2009, 2011, 2012, 2015), and Qatar (2014, 2016). Juventus F.C. holds the record with nine Super Cup titles, while AC Milan and Inter Milan each have won the same seven times.
