Legal eagle Catherine Beloff to join ECB

England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has hired Catherine Beloff as new general counsel Image: Coliseum GSVA

Catherine Beloff will join the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) (UK) as the organization’s new General Counsel in September.

‘ECB’ stated that as the General Counsel Beloff will sit on the ECB Executive Leadership Group and her responsibilities will include providing expert guidance on all legal matters which affect the ECB including the commercial areas, regulations, governance, and litigation.

London (UK)-based the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is the national governing body of cricket in England and Wales. It was formed on January 1st, 1997 as a single governing body to combine the roles formerly fulfilled by the Test and County Cricket Board, the National Cricket Association and the Cricket Council. In April 1998, the Women’s Cricket Association was integrated into the organization.

‘ECB’ further stated that Beloff joins the ECB after 10 years at the British Horseracing Authority (BHA). While in her role as the General Counsel at the BHA Beloff was also Chair of the British Association for Sport and Law. She had previously been Senior Associate at the global law firm DLA Piper.

London (UK)-based the British Horseracing Authority, also known as the BHA, is the regulatory authority for horse racing in Great Britain. It was formed on July 31st, 2007.

Manchester (UK)-based the British Association for Sport and Law is a professional association representing the sport law practitioners, the sports administrators, the sports law academics, and the students.

Beloff has extensive experience of advising the sports governing bodies, the clubs, the athletes, and the sports rights owners in relation to regulatory and commercial issues connected with sport, in proceedings in the English and European Courts and before international and domestic sports disciplinary and arbitral panels. From 2011 to 2025, Catherine was a Director of the British Association for Sport and Law including a period as its Chair.
