Work has started on a new national football stadium for Belarus in the country’s capital City, Minsk. The football stadium is scheduled for completion in 2023 and the price tag will come to $180 million.

Earlier, the Beijing Urban Construction Group (BUCG) had struck a deal as regards the same.

Media reports stated that BUCG has been selected as the general contractor for the 33,000-seat project. The Beijing Construction Engineering Group will also serve as general contractor for an ‘international-standard’ aquatics center.

The contracts are seen as the latest development in the close relationship built up between Belarus and China. The projects will come under the Chinese Government’s Belt and Road Initiative global development venture, with Belarus having signed up as one of the first partners.

The facility will sport two tiers of seating and underground parking. It will also be able to host concerts and other events.

The Belarus national team currently uses the Dinamo Stadium as its primary venue. Home of Premier League club Dinamo Minsk, the stadium has a capacity of around 22,000 after reopening in December 2017 following major revamp work.

The stadium is being designed and built by a consortium of China IPPR International Engineering and its affiliated Jingxing International Engineering Management Company.

The venue will be able to host events including European Championships, the World Cup, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and the European Super Cup. The building area covers 48,000m2.

The venue has been designed according to the highest standards of the corresponding size stadiums of UEFA and when completed it will become a world-class professional football stadium.
