With an annual surplus of EUR 7 million the Olympiapark München GmbH (the company that manages and operates the Munich Olympic Park in Munich, Germany) achieved one of its best results ever in 2024. This is according to the current Annual Report of the Municipal subsidiary.

‘Olympiapark München’ quoted Marion Schöne, Managing Director, Olympiapark München GmbH (OMG), as stating, “It was an outstanding, remarkable year that the Olympic Park experienced. The 2024 event calendar was packed with major events and millions of visitors took part in the events. The Park was a place of joie de vivre, a place filled with cheerful moments entirely in keeping with our goal. We are all the more pleased that we were also able to close the year with such an outstanding financial result – one of the best in post-Olympic history.”

Munich (Germany)-based the Olympiapark München GmbH (OMG) is a company wholly-owned by the City of Munich that manages and operates the Olympic Park in Munich. Its primary goal is to maintain the Park and its related facilities while also pursuing all associated business activities. The OMG is responsible for organizing the events, managing the leisure facilities and promoting the Park as a venue for sports, culture and recreation.

The 6,142-capacity Munich Olympic Park in Munich, Germany, is an Olympic Park which was constructed for the 1972 Summer Olympics. Located in the Oberwiesenfeld neighborhood of Munich the Park continues to serve as a venue for cultural, social and religious events such as the events of worship. It includes a contemporary carillon.

‘Olympiapark München’ further stated that the net income increased by approximately €1.9 million compared to the previous year (€5.1 million). This significant increase was primarily due to the major events such as the 10 open-air concerts, the Union of European Football Association’s (UEFA) EURO Fan Zone, the European Handball Championship, and the Superbloom Music Festival a diverse lineup of pop, rock, electronic, and alternative artists (musicians who create music outside of the mainstream or commercial genres like pop or traditional rock), as well as immersive art installations and sustainability initiatives.

Nyon (Switzerland)-based the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) is one of six continental bodies of governance in association football. It governs football, futsal and beach football in Europe and the transcontinental countries of Turkey, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Kazakhstan as well as the West Asian countries of Cyprus, Armenia and Israel. The UEFA consists of 55 national association members. Since 2022, due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the FIFA and the UEFA has suspended all the Russian national teams and clubs from any FIFA and UEFA competitions.

Explained Mayor Verena Dietl, Third Mayor of Munich, “For over 50 years the Olympic Park has been an unparalleled international event center and a local recreation area with high recreational value for Munich. Offering all of this to the population and to the countless tourists every day is a major task and, in these economically difficult times, sometimes a real feat. Therefore, as Chairwoman of the Supervisory Board of Olympiapark München GmbH, I would like to sincerely thank the Managing Director Marion Schöne and her team for this remarkable year 2024 and the excellent annual results.”

With 5.7 million visitors the Park recorded its highest number of guests since football left in 2005. Over 4.3 million people (previous year: 2.9 million) attended 363 events across 627 event days. A further approximately 1.4 million (previous year: 1.6 million) Park visitors used the leisure and tourism facilities. This includes all the businesses in the Olympic Park including those operated by the third parties such as the 12,500-capacity SAP Garden which opened in August (public ice skating) and September (event operations) 2024. In addition to the 5.7 million visitors counted there are also the thousands of Munich residents and tourists who visited the Olympic grounds without being registered.

Concluded Schöne, “We are delighted with our success and can be proud of our achievements. But we cannot rest on our laurels as 2025 and the following years hold numerous challenges. The reduced number of large open-air concerts, the closure of the Olympic Tower and the complete closure of the Olympic Stadium for two years starting in September will have a noticeable impact on the revenue and thus on our results. Despite everything, there is also much positive to note for the current year, 2025: The capacity utilization of the 15,500-capacity Olympiahalle (a multipurpose indoor arena which sits in the Munich Olympic Park complex) is excellent. For the first time since the coronavirus pandemic an annual general meeting of the BMW (a German multinational conglomerate manufacturer of luxury vehicles) was held. The football euphoria reigned at the Fan Fest for the UEFA Champions League (an annual club association football competition featuring top European clubs) Final, and our own events such as the Munich Action Sports Heroes (MASH – an annual action sports festival), and ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ (an annual open-air festival), are sure to delight. The Small Olympic Hall is enjoying a lively attendance at the ‘Body Worlds’ Exhibition (a traveling exhibition of real human and animal bodies that have been preserved through a process called plastination [a technique for the preservation of animal and human tissues]). And, there will be new ones such as the Loop One Festival biathlon event, the opening of the Olympic Action Sports Center and the Mobile Skylift Observation Tower as a temporary replacement attraction for the Olympic Tower.”

The digital Annual Report of the Olympiapark München GmbH offers an overview and insights into the 2024 event year in words, pictures and clips as well as into the projects and work of the individual divisions and, of course, the financial data.
