Preston North End to play Cup match at Goodison Park

Preston North End’s Carabao Cup first round tie at home to Huddersfield Town has been moved to Goodison Park.

The BBC said the club’s home ground of Deepdale is having a new hybrid pitch installed which the club say will be ready in time for their first home Championship game against Wolves on Saturday, 22 August.

Preston said in a statement, “To ensure no issues after a significant £1.5m-plus investment, the decision was made to ask permission to play away from PR1 in round one.”

The cup tie kicks off at 15:00 BST on Saturday, 8 August, the week before the new league season starts.

Preston North End Football Club, commonly referred to as Preston, North End or PNE, is a professional association football club in Preston, Lancashire, England. They currently play in the EFL Championship, the second tier of the English football league system.

The 23,404-capacity Deepdale Stadium is a football stadium in the Deepdale area of Preston, England (UK), the home of Preston North End F.C. Deepdale is “widely recognized as being the oldest ‘continuously used’ football stadium in the world.

The pitch will be complete in time for the club’s first home league game against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday 22nd August.

Goodison Park was the home of Everton up until the start of the 2025-26 season when they moved to their new Hill Dickinson Stadium with the Toffees’ women’s team taking up sole residency.

Goodison Park is a football stadium in Walton, Liverpool, England (UK) that has been the home of the Premier League club Everton F.C. from 1892 until 2025. It has been the home of the Everton Women’s team from 2025. It has an all-seated capacity of 39,414.
