The Football Federation of Montenegro (FSCG) is set to kick off reconstruction of the national football team’s City Stadium in Podgorica, with the building of a new main stand.

Inside World Football said the plans were unveiled following a meeting between the FSCG, representatives of the Podgorica city government, stadium owner JP Sports Facilities and the project designer.

The stadium’s main stand, which has a capacity of 6,100 seats, will be reconstructed. Funding will be provided by the Government of Montenegro and the FSCG.

The entire reconstruction is expected to be completed within two to three years.

Podgorica City Stadium is an all-seater multi-purpose stadium in Podgorica, Montenegro. Its seating capacity has changed over the years following several renovations and it currently has around 11,000 seats.

The stadium is the home ground of the Montenegro national team and Montenegrin First League club Budućnost.

The stadium is owned by the Municipality of Podgorica through the company JP Sports Facilities.

FSCG Secretary General Momir Durdevac said he was delighted that talks had begun and the first steps had been taken in implementing such an important football infrastructure project.

Durdaec said, “By investing in the main project of the eastern stand, the Football Association has taken an initial step in solving a long-standing infrastructure problem at our largest stadium.

“After two meetings held in a short period of time and the interest shown by the Capital City in the implementation of this project, we believe that the first concrete steps will be taken very soon so that all works are completed within the scheduled deadlines.”

After the first meetings, the JP Sports Facilities Director Aleksandar Vuckovic, said that the implementation of this project seems realistic and achievable.

He said, “This initiative has been shown by the Capital City and which the Sports Facilities and the Football Association have been waiting for for a long time. After the second meeting we held regarding the construction of the East Stand in a very short period of time, seems realistic and achievable.

“After today’s meeting, I believe that a tender for the selection of the contractor will be announced very soon and that in two to three years we will put into operation a new, modern East Stand, which will complete the infrastructure at the City Stadium, which is a long-standing wish of all football fans in Montenegro.

“With the change of the pitch, which will also be implemented very soon, we will get a facility that will meet all the needs of playing international matches and where we will proudly welcome all football guests.”
