Scheels Sports Park at Legacy Pointe is set to become Springfield, Illinois’ premier sports destination when it opens later this year.

Scheels Sports Park said the multi-use complex is designed to accommodate a wide array of sporting events, offering flexible spaces that can be configured for nearly any sport imaginable.

Spanning an incredible 196,625 square feet, the sports park’s indoor dome is the largest of its kind in the U.S., offering a climate-controlled environment that ensures year-round play and competition.

The dome will be the largest air-supported structure in America and the largest air-supported sports dome in the world.

Designed to drive economic growth, strengthen community connections, and encourage local involvement, the venue will provide a premier experience for athletes, fans, and event organizers alike.

The multi-sport facility, which is expected to partially open in the fall of 2025 before fully opening in 2026, is equipped to host everything from elite tournaments and community recreation to large scale events, vendor fairs, and more. The dome will house:

6 full-sized basketball courts
12 volleyball courts
Multi-purpose 350’ x 280’ turf field
2 softball fields
5 batting cages

With its expansive layout and flexible configurations, the indoor facility is designed to host multiple sports and events simultaneously, ensuring that every athlete, spectator, and event attendee enjoys a premium experience.

Beyond the dome, Scheels Sports Park features an impressive outdoor complex, offering elite level playing fields and event spaces for various sports and gatherings. The outdoor amenities include:

8 multipurpose, lighted turf fields – These fields are 400’ baseball fields that can be reconfigured for softball, soccer, lacrosse, and more, accommodating tournaments of all sizes
2 championship fields – Equipped with stadium seating and video boards, these fields create a professional atmosphere for high-stakes games and championship matchups.
The Yard – A 27,000-square-foot event space – Designed for community gatherings, concerts, fan experiences, and special events, The Yard serves as a dynamic hub for entertainment and social engagement.

The Administrative Building, which is the main entrance into the Springfield Clinic Dome will host the Springfield Clinic– the venue’s medical partner who will be using the space for rehab and performance enhancement, office spaces and restrooms.
