The Basketball Bundesliga team Fraport Skyliners (Germany) are on cloud nine. They were promised an arena in the last century which is finally set to come to fruition now!

‘SKYLINERS’ stated that the City Council recently voted with a clear majority to build a new multifunctional arena in the Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt, Germany.

The Skyliners Frankfurt, currently known as the Fraport Skyliners for sponsorship reasons, are a professional basketball club based in Frankfurt, Germany. Their home arena is Ballsporthalle. The club has played in the Basketball Bundesliga since 1999.

The 58,000-capacity Waldstadion, currently known as the Deutsche Bank Park for sponsorship purposes, is a retractable roof sports stadium in Frankfurt, Hesse, Germany. The home stadium of the Bundesliga team Eintracht Frankfurt it opened in 1925.

The Süwag Energie ARENA is an indoor arena that is located in Frankfurt, Germany. It is primarily used to host basketball games, volleyball matches and indoor football matches. The arena’s seating capacity is 5,002 people for the basketball games. The arena, which was originally named the Ballsporthalle Frankfurt, opened in 1988. It has been the home arena of the German professional basketball club the Fraport Skyliners since 1999.

The Basketball Bundesliga, for sponsorship reasons named the easyCredit BBL, is the highest level league of professional club basketball in Germany. The league comprises 18 teams. A BBL season is split into a league stage and a playoff stage.

‘SKYLINERS’ further stated that the above decision marks a watershed moment for basketball in Frankfurt and for the City’s entire sports and cultural community. In the coming months the stage will be set for the tenders to be floated.

The new arena will not only meet the requirements of the easyCredit Basketball Bundesliga but will also be able to hold 15,000 spectators for the concerts and other events. The venue will be large enough for the planned Olympic bid of Germany as well as for the European and the World Championships.

Gushed Dr. Gunnar Wöbke, Managing Partner of Skyliners, “We are overjoyed that the City of Frankfurt is finally keeping the promise it made to us in the last century – the year we were founded in 1999: To build a futuristic multipurpose venue equipped with at least 10,000 seats. The above decision comes not a moment too soon. Without a new arena we will not be able to even compete in the easyCredit Basketball Bundesliga from 2032 onwards. Our participation in the Euroleague has not been possible for over a decade. We are very happy that there was unanimous approval in the City Council on building an arena for the Skyliners and would like to thank every single individual involved as the arena construction process can finally get rolling.”

The EuroLeague, officially the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, is a European men’s professional basketball club competition. The league is widely recognized as the top-tier men’s league in Europe.
