With the 2021-2022 Bundesliga campaign start just round the corner, the Bundesliga club 1. FC Köln (Germany) will be welcoming 16,500 spectators to its venue fold – the RheinEnergieStadion – when it will take on its peer team Hertha BSC on August 14th-15th, 2021.

The ‘kicker’ stated that fans who have neither been vaccinated nor recovered from COVID-19, the above fixture will be their last game which they can attend at the RheinEnergieStadion.

The 2021-2022 Bundesliga will be the 59th season of the Bundesliga, Germany’s premier football competition. It will begin on August 13th, 2021 and will conclude on May 14th, 2022. The fixtures were announced on June 25th, 2021.

FC Köln is a German professional football club based in Cologne in the German State of North Rhine-Westphalia. It was formed in 1948 as a merger of the clubs Kölner Ballspiel-Club 1901 and SpVgg Sülz 07.

The 50,000-capacity RheinEnergieStadion is a German football stadium in Cologne, Germany. It was built on the site of the two previous Müngersdorfer stadiums. It is the home of the local Bundesliga team, 1. FC Köln.

Hertha BSC is a German professional football club based in the locality of Westend of the borough of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf of Berlin in Germany. The 74,475-capacity Olympiastadion in Berlin serves as their home arena.

Bundesliga is a professional association football league in Germany. At the top of the German football league system, the Bundesliga is Germany’s primary football competition.

The ‘kicker’ further stated that FC Köln can use a little more than a third of the total capacity of the RheinEnergieStadion when FC Köln meets Hertha BSC on the aforementioned dates.

Once the above matchup is over, there will be a 360 degree change in FC Köln’s COVID-19 rules. In the second home game against Bundesliga team VfL Bochum, only those who have taken both the shots against coronavirus or have fully recovered from the fatal respiratory disease will be allowed ingress to the RheinEnergieStadion. FC Köln is the first Bundesliga team to adopt such stringent COVID-19 protocols taking into account the fact that the Delta variant of the virus is tightening its fatal claws on the world.

Fans can take jabs from either the German biotechnology company BioNTech or can opt for the American multinational corporation Johnson & Johnson’s COVID vaccine.
