The English Football League (EFL) League Two club Leyton Orient F.C. (UK) is looking to recruit a Media Officer to play a vital role in its Media and Communications Department.

Leyton Orient Football Club is a professional football club based in London, England (UK), who competes in English Football League (EFL) League Two, the fourth tier of the English football league system. They are the second oldest football club in London to play at a professional level, and are known to their fans by their nickname ‘the O’s’.

The 9,271-capacity Brisbane Road, currently referred to as The Breyer Group Stadium for sponsorship purposes, and originally known as Osborne Road, is a football stadium in Brisbane Road, Leyton, East London, England.

The ‘Leyton Orient FC’ stated that with this opportunity, the Media Officer will be required to produce content for the club’s official website and various social media channels, as well as leading the production of the club’s matchday program.

The role requires management of the club’s Press relations and will help administer home matchdays for visiting newsmen.

This role will require attendance of all the club’s home and away matches where work may include creation of pre and post-match content, providing updates on the club’s social media channels, and more.

The ‘Leyton Orient FC’ further stated that the successful candidate should be outgoing and personable, with an outstanding work ethic and the ability to offer fresh and creative ideas.

The candidate must have a willingness to work unsociable hours. This will include all first-team matchdays (home and away), evenings and any club events that might fall outside of normal working hours.
 

Key responsibilities

The key responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead on the creation of the official matchday program, working with an external designer;
  • Key involvement in the creation of written and creative content for the club’s official website and various social media channels;
  • Assisting in press relations, including assistance in the management of media obligations for players, staff and other key stakeholders;
  • Play a major role on the club’s first-team content, including pre- and post-match interviews, running social channels and writing match reports;
  • Initiating creative campaigns, and bringing stories to life with video content;
  • Working with colleagues on timely marketing, commercial and retail activations;
  • Working alongside the Leyton Orient Trust to help publicize community engagement and activity; and
  • Any other tasks as directed by the Media Manager and/or CEO.

 

Knowledge, skills and experience required

 

Essential:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines;
  • Social media skills and understanding of the latest trends;
  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • Excellent copywriting and proofing skills;
  • Video skills, from filming content, through to editing;
  • Good interviewing techniques for players, football staff and board members;
  • Exceptional attention to detail;
  • Commitment to creating first-class, accurate and engaging content; and
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

 

Desirable:

  • An understanding of the Adobe Creative Suite;
  • A full-UK driving license and access to a car;
  • Experience using a Content Management System (CMS); and
  • Previous experience working at a football club or within a football-related environment is ideal, but not necessary.
