Rhode Island FC stadium update February 2023 Image: USL and Tidewater Landing

The Tidewater Landing development, on the banks of the Seekonk River in Pawtucket in the US State of Rhode Island, hit a huge milestone recently at the stadium of the upcoming American professional soccer club Rhode Island FC.

‘Rhode Island FC’ stated that the concrete pouring exercise has begun and progress is being made on the foundation work. It has already started exuding the look-and-feel of a new site.

The Tidewater Landing development, on the banks of the Seekonk River in Pawtucket, is a game changer for both the City of Pawtucket and the State of Rhode Island (US). A multiuse stadium will be the anchor of the development which will include housing, restaurants, retail stores, and recreational amenities.

The Rhode Island FC is an upcoming American professional soccer club located in Pawtucket, Rhode Island (US). The club is scheduled to debut in the United Soccer League (USL) Championship in 2024. Their 10,500-capacity home venue – the Tidewater Landing Stadium on the banks of the Seekonk River – is projected to be complete in the Spring of 2024.

‘Rhode Island FC’ further stated that on the horizon, the upcoming soccer club plan on erecting the first steel beams this Spring.

The upcoming soccer club said in a statement, “We’re doing this for Rhode Island, and we’re excited to share these updates with all of you. Follow us on social media to keep up with all the updates happening at Tidewater Landing this year!”

ACE Mentor Program

To share some of the updates and the amazing work that the construction crew has done so far, the Rhode Island FC invited some aspiring engineers and architects – high school members of the ACE Mentor Program – to tour the facility recently. During their tour, these students got to meet some leaders of the project team, discussed their responsibilities and got a firsthand look of what large-scale civil engineering projects like these entail. Learn more about the ACE Program here!

The Architecture, Construction, Engineering (ACE) Mentor Program of America, Inc. (ACE) helps mentor high school students and inspires them to pursue careers in design and construction.

Celebrating Black History Month

Rhode Island’s rich soccer history runs deep, and this month the Rhode Island FC is highlighting the Watson brothers – Black trailblazers that hail from their State. More to be released via their social channels and website.

The Watson brothers are the earliest documented African-American soccer players in the United States. The pair was born in Rhode Island, Oliver in 1872 and Fred in 1875.

The Rhode Island FC also encourages one to learn more about the State’s Black history via local events, archives and through supporting Black-owned businesses. One can also do so by visiting the Rhode Island Black Heritage Society, Visit Rhode Island and digital archives of the Pawtucket Library.
