Spanish LaLiga club CD Leganés and the City Council have struck a deal for the lease of the Estadio Municipal Butarque for the next 50 years.

CD Leganés said that after long and intense negotiations, both parties have reached an understanding that provides legal certainty to the Leganés team which can now move forward with improvements to the stadium.

The city will also be a winner in the deal with an agreement being reached over the construction of a sports center in the neighborhood of Leganés Norte.

Club Deportivo Leganés is a professional football club based in Leganés, Community of Madrid. They currently compete in LaLiga, the first tier of the Spanish league system.

The club said the concession agreement comes after many months of dialogue and cements a deal that not only guarantees the growth of the Blue and Whites, but also leaves a significant legacy for the city of Leganés.

The most tangible example of this is the construction of the €5.7 million sports center in the neighborhood of Leganés Norte, a facility that the club will operate for all residents.

In addition to the sports center, and to further strengthen the agreement, CD Leganés has also committed to:

  • Allocate a fixed number of social tickets that the City Council will distribute at all League matches.
  • Provide advertising to the city both in the stadium and in the Anexo Jesús Polo.
  • Open the door of the Estadio Municipal Butarque to hold an annual tournament that contributes to continue positioning Leganés on the map of national sporting activity.
  • To invest a minimum amount of money in the stadium over the next four years, so that it can be modernized and brought up to the standards that all fans and the city deserves.

President of CD Leganés Jeff Luhnow said, “Today we celebrate an achievement that will mark the destiny of C.D. Leganés and Leganés as a city. Butarque is and will be our home, and we want it to continue to be a proud, united and ambitious symbol.

“With this concession, we look to the future with enthusiasm, knowing that together, club, fans and administration, we continue to build a success story.”

Mayor of Leganés, Miguel Ángel Recuenco, added, “It is a historic agreement that comes after many months of intense work.

“After so many years of waiting and uncertainty, this government, working as a team with enthusiasm, passion and effort, has brought to fruition the objective of moving forward with the concession. Now we have to keep dreaming… and working hard.”

CD Leganés will now work over the coming months to plan the various improvements that will be made to the stadium.
