Work begins on Osasuna project Image: CA Osasuna

Construction work has kicked off on Spanish football club CA Osasuna’s Futuro Tajonar training ground project.

Osasuna said that on May 20 the club received the building permit from Aranguren Valley City Council to carry out the necessary earthworks across the entire plot.

Osasuna will invest €18 million in the expansion of its sports complex. The project includes the construction of a stadium with a capacity for 2,800 spectators, two natural grass pitches, two artificial grass pitches, and a two-story building that will house the first team’s daily training sessions and the club’s offices.

Geotechnical studies of the site were conducted last November, and some preliminary work was carried out on the plot that will house the venue’s future public parking lot. However, work has now been able to get underway in earnest.

Once the earthworks are completed the foundations will be constructed on which the stadium, the first team building and offices, and the training fields will be built in the coming months.

Club Atlético Osasuna, or simply Osasuna, is a Spanish professional football club in Pamplona, Navarre. Founded on October 24th, 1920, the club currently plays in LaLiga, holding home games at the 23,576-capacity El Sadar Stadium.

El Sadar Stadium is a football stadium in Pamplona, Navarre, Spain. The stadium holds 23,576 people. It was built in 1967 and is the home of the top-flight club CA Osasuna. It is currently used mostly for football matches.

Osasuna said work has begun on the parking lot at the training complex, which will have approximately 600 spaces.

Th complex will occupy an area of 19,104 square meters on a plot ceded for 20 years by the Aranguren Valley City Council.

The most significant part of the project is the construction of new training fields, a building for the first team, and a small stadium for Osasuna Promesas and Osasuna Femenino.

The first floor of the new building covers 2,030 square meters and will be equipped with all the first team necessities: a gym, a medical area, a locker room, hydrotherapy pools, storage units, coaching staff offices, a video room, a dining hall, and a kitchen.

This will allow the first team to move to the new building, and the club will reform the current facilities for the academy teams, especially Osasuna Femenino and Osasuna Promesas.

The second floor has 1,370 square meters and 960 square meters of outdoor space. This will be the space for the club’s front office, which is currently at El Sadar, and a multi- purpose room for press conferences and meetings.

The project is expected to be inaugurated by the start of the 2027-28 season

One of the project’s centerpieces is the construction of a natural grass stadium with two stands on each side of the field and a capacity for 2,800 fans.

If suitable, the stadium’s capacity might be increased to 5,000 by adding stands on the end zones. The stadium will serve as the home field for Osasuna Femenino and Osasuna Promesas.

The bulk of the work on the structures is scheduled to begin in September and requires a different and more complex administrative process.

OFS Architects, the firm in charge of the project, is currently working on this project.

A large portion of these projects will be financed with funds from the Impulso Plan, which the club has not yet accessed and which it will now use to carry out this project. The remainder will be financed with the club’s own funds over the next two seasons.

In addition to the 166,000 square meters acquired in 2022, on which the Futuro Tajonar project will be built, the club recently acquired another 28,000-square-meter plot for €4 million (plus VAT).
