Work on Arena MRV in Brazil, the new home of Campeonato Brasileiro Série A football club Atlético Mineiro, will begin in full steam in January 2020 once the final nod for the development is given.

Recently, The Municipal Council of the Environment unanimously backed the project thus paving the way for preparatory work to start this year.

The stadium which will be able to accommodate 46,000 spectators will come up in the northwest region of Belo Horizonte in Brazil on land that has been provided for the development by businessman Rubens Menin.

It is reported that the venue is expected to be built at an estimated cost of R410m (£77m/€90m/$100m), with the club hoping to generate approximately R60m through a 10-year naming rights deal and a further R250m from offloading the Diamond Mall, which is built on land owned by the club.

“It is an honor to be able to announce to our fans that work on the stadium will begin. I am sure that, in our new home, we will be an even bigger club and achieve great things,” Atlético president Sérgio Sette Câmara stated.

Informed the project’s Executive Director, Bruno Muzzi, “About R80m will be used to improve urban infrastructure in the region. We are very happy with this favorable decision and we will start the work so that another step can be taken in making our dreams come true.”

The construction work will be done by local company Racional Engenharia. The preparatory work is all set to take place over the next three to four months before building work begins.

The facility will enjoy 40 bars and 2,400 parking spots and is expected to go on stream in the middle of 2022.
