Jacqueline Alves has made history in taking on the role as director of Mineirão Stadium in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, as it celebrates its sixtieth anniversary.

With 10 years of experience in the administrative and financial division at Mineirão,
she becomes the first woman to lead the stadium in its 60-year history.

Mineirao said Alves has a degree in civil engineering from the Federal University of Uberlândia (UFU), an MBA in Business Management from Fundação Getulio Vargas and a Master’s in Finance from the Insper Institute of Education and Research.

With experience and leadership, the new director wants to keep Mineirão as a landmark venue for sports, culture and entertainment in Brazil.

Mineirão Stadium was completed in 1965. It served as a venue in the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup and the 2014 FIFA World Cup. It also hosted some matches of the football tournament of the 2016 Summer Olympics.

The stadium has a seating capacity of 66,658 spectators. The property of the state of Minas Gerais, it is used by Cruzeiro.

Cruzeiro Sports Club is mostly known for its football team. It plays in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, the top tier of the Brazilian football league system, as well as in the Campeonato Mineiro, the state of Minas Gerais’s premier state league.

Alves said, “I am very honored to take on this position at Mineirão, especially in such a significant year. My commitment is to continue promoting excellence and innovation, keeping the stadium as a symbol of pride for all people from Minas Gerais.”

The new director also hopes to motivate other women to take on leadership roles. She said, “I take on this role with great pride, as I am the first woman to hold this position in its 60-year history. I know that this responsibility will inspire many women.”

Renovated for the 2014 World Cup, Mineirão Stadium has been managed by Minas Arena since 2013, a Special Purpose Entity (SPE) created through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) with the Government of Minas Gerais.

The concessionaire carried out the modernization works and will manage the stadium until 2037.

The New Mineirão, as it became known in its modern phase, contributed directly to the growth of Minas Gerais football, hosting national and international titles for Cruzeiro and Atlético.

At the same time, Mineirão has put Belo Horizonte on the map for major festivals and international events in the country, living up to the concept of a multipurpose arena.

A study by the Institute of Administrative Economic Research (Ipead), at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), for the year 2022, showed that Mineirão has the capacity to inject more than R$1 billion into the economy annually.
