The French professional football club Olympique Lyonnais is on cloud nine over the Metropolis of Lyon (France) giving its nod for the Arena Hall project to continue on the OL Vallée site.

The ‘Olympique Lyonnais’ stated that the Métropole de Lyon voted in favor of making the PLU compatible, allowing the Arena Hall private project of Olympique Lyonnais to continue.

Olympique Lyonnais, commonly referred to as simply Lyon or OL, is a French professional football club based in Lyon in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. It plays in France’s highest football division, Ligue 1. The club was established in 1950.

Parc Olympique Lyonnais, known for sponsorship reasons as Groupama Stadium, and in some competitions as Grand Stade de Lyon or Stade des Lumières, is a 59,186-seat stadium in Décines-Charpieu, in the Lyon Metropolis of France and is the residence of Olympique Lyonnais.

The Metropolis of Lyon, also known as Grand Lyon, is a French territorial collectivity located in the East-Central region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.

OL Vallée is a massive project of the Ligue 1 club Olympique Lyonnais the design of which was conceived when the Groupama Stadium (France) opened in 2016. Spread over a 50 ha site, it is all set to become a sports center of excellence and is scheduled to go on stream in 2024. The new complex will be attached to the Groupama Stadium in Décines which is the residence of Lyon.

The above decision will pave the way for the wasteland to get transformed into a multifunctional arena where cultural activities, sports, esports, and big-ticket events will be held. The Arena Hall will be able to pack in a crowd of 16,000 and will be a part of the OL Vallée project and is expected to be completed in 2023.

The Olympique Lyonnais has decided to consult the local authorities as well as the community on which the development will sit from time to time.

The ‘Olympique Lyonnais’ further stated that keeping sustainability at the forefront, the Olympique Lyonnais has reduced the building’s carbon footprint by 11 percent, while open-ground spaces will represent 30 percent of the plot, an increase of plus 50 percent compared to the initial project. Likewise, the roof of the arena will be full of foliage as well as comprise photovoltaic (PV) panels.

The ‘OL’ will participate in community development like constructing a footbridge over the Eastern bypass and creating an ecological corridor between the Biézin and Grand Large.

The Arena project is part of Olympique Lyonnais’ strategy of taking into account environmental changes and resource management, implemented since the construction of the Groupama Stadium.

OL Vallée will come armed with photovoltaic shades with a surface area comprising 50,000 m2, corresponding to seven football fields. This device, unique in France, will generate up to 10 MW (corresponding to the equivalent of the annual energy consumption of 2,500 households).

Olympique Lyonnais is once again at the service of the community through the Arena project.
