A new stadium has been announced for the National League team Scunthorpe United F.C. following the purchase of two plots of land in the town (Scunthorpe, UK) by the football club.

‘GrimsbyLive’ stated that the Scunthorpe United owner David Hilton addressed a fan forum on May 18th and spoke about the future plans for the sites which the club has acquired.

The Scunthorpe United Football Club is a professional association football club based in the town of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire, England (UK). The team competes in the National League, the fifth level of the English football league system, as of the 2022-2023 seasons.

The 9,088-capacity Glanford Park is a football stadium in Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire, England (UK), and is the current home of National League team Scunthorpe United F.C.

‘GrimsbyLive’ further stated that a plot on Glebe Road is 19 acres in size while land on the Warren Road is around 14 acres. The Scunthorpe owner says the club will still play at Glanford Park next season, as there is reportedly still deadlock over its sale by the previous club owner Peter Swann.

Doug Parker who is from the Winterton Iron Scunthorpe United Supporters’ Group was present at the meeting held on May 18th and said, “One’s going to be for the ground, apparently, and the other one is going to be maybe retail and car parking. They’ve got a separate site for a training ground somewhere else in Scunthorpe which they are hoping to be in October.”

Fan Ryan Middleton added, “They’re looking to move in within two years hopefully. I think that’s an optimistic deadline but it’s one that certainly could be achieved if everything runs smoothly, which we know obviously the last time with the Lincolnshire Lakes (back in 2019 Scunthorpe United pulled out of the Lincolnshire Lakes stadium project) , that didn’t happen, but hopefully the club can build up a good relationship with the Council and get it moving really.”

The Glanford Park opened in 1988 at a construction cost of £2.5 million. At the time, it was the first new purpose-built Football League stadium to be built in England for 33 years.

In 2019, the club was originally set to develop a flagship stadium at the center of the Lincolnshire Lakes – a 6,000 new homes development led by the North Lincolnshire Council. Scunthorpe United was forced to abandon the Lakes plans despite having been granted planning permission due to a lack of progress and stalled development.

The Winterton Iron supporters group was formed back in 2007 with its main aim to support Scunthorpe United F.C. It is an enthusiastic group who support local charities and raise in excess of £4,000 each year.
