This year’s Amir Cup football final between the top-flight Qatari sports club Al Sadd and the Qatari multisports club Al Rayyan will be held at 100 percent occupancy with the 40,000-seater Al Thumama Stadium in Qatar set to host the marquee matchup on October 22nd.

The ‘Gulf Times’ stated that the organizers have informed that COVID-19 protocols will be followed strictly during the staging of the high-profile match. The inauguration of the Al Thumama Stadium will mark the completion of the sixth 2022 FIFA World Cup™ Qatar venue after the 48,000-capacity Khalifa International, the 40,000-capacity Al Janoub, the 45,350-capacity Education City, the 21,282-capacity Ahmad Bin Ali, and the 60,000-capacity Al Bayt stadia.

The 40,000-capacity Al Thumama Stadium is a football stadium in Al Thumama, Qatar. It will be a venue for the 2022 FIFA World Cup™ in Qatar. It is all set to open its doors on October 22nd with the hosting of the above football showcase.

The Al Sadd Sports Club is a Qatari sports club based in the Al Sadd district of the City of Doha. It is best known for its association football team, which competes in the top level of Qatari football, the Qatar Stars League. Locally, it is known primarily by the nickname ‘Al Zaeem’, which translates to ‘The Boss’.

The Al-Rayyan Sports Club is a Qatari multisports club fielding teams in a number of sports such as football, futsal, basketball, volleyball, handball, athletics, table tennis, and swimming. The club was founded in 1967 after merging the old Rayyan team with the Nusoor Club. The official team colors are red and black.

The Amir Cup Final is an association football tournament played every season by 18 first and second division teams. The most successful is Al Sadd who won the tournament 17 times. The Amir Cup Final was played for the first time in 1972, and was won by the top-notch Saudi Arabian professional football club based in Jeddah – Al-Ahli.

The ‘Gulf Times’ further stated that the Final will also mark the return of normalcy in Qatar since the COVID-19 pandemic – which still continues with its whiplash in certain parts of the world – disrupted sports events in the country last year.

Rashid al-Khater, Director of Operations, Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the Amir Cup 2021 Final, said on October 12th at the headquarters of the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC), “It would be a great experience for fans and we all are excited for this big match.”

Al-Khater added that the demand for the tickets has been massive since it went on sale last month. Roads leading to the Al Thumama Stadium will be closed, with alternative arrangements ensured. The closure will be in effect from 4 pm on October 20th till 11:59 am on October 22nd.

Qatar’s Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) is the entity responsible for overseeing all construction and infrastructure projects for the 2022 FIFA World Cup™.
