The Kazakhstan MotoGP scheduled for September has been cancelled because of devastating floods that ravaged the country earlier this year.

Barrons said it will be replaced by an event at Emilia-Romagna. Organisers announced that the Misano circuit in Italy will stage a second event this season in September, two weeks after it hosts the San Marino Grand Prix.

Last year’s planned race in Kazakhstan was also shelved because of continuing works on the circuit.

Kazakhstan had been set to welcome riders for the first time last month but unprecedented bad weather and flooding across Central Asia caused a national emergency.

MotoGP said in a statement, “Operational and logistical issues arising from the earlier flooding across the region have rendered the event impossible to hold in 2024.

Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli will instead host the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix from the 20th to the 22nd of September.

MotoGP is excited to stage a second event at the iconic Adriatic venue, giving the passionate Italian fanbase a further opportunity to see the world’s most exciting sport in action.

“The Italian GP earlier this season became the second best attended Grand Prix ever at that venue, and tickets for the San Marino GP, MotoGP’s first visit to Misano this season, are already forecast to sell out soon.”

Grand Prix motorcycle racing is the highest class of motorcycle road racing events held on road circuits sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM).

The current top division has been known as MotoGP since 2002

Barrons further stated that the race was initially pushed back until later this year, taking the spot of the Indian Grand Prix, which was scrapped in May after making its series debut in 2023.

But riders will instead stay in Italy for the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, the third event of the year in the country.

The Italian MotoGP took place at Mugello in June. The Emilia-Romagna GP was held in 2020 and 2021 as a response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The season resumes in early August with the British MotoGP at Silverstone.

Two-time defending world champion Francesco Bagnaia of Italy leads the standings by 10 points from Spain’s Jorge Martin.
