Paris derby to stoke up French football

Footballing rivals Paris FC and Paris St-Germain (PSG) will take each other on in a local derby next season after Paris FC confirmed their spot in Ligue 1.

The Sun said their latest win put them four points clear of Metz who are third and now Paris FC will be promoted and will move right next door to their enemies, the giants of French football.

Paris FC are moving into a new stadium next season – Stade Jean-Bouin – which is literally a few yards from PSG’s Parc des Princes.

Paris Saint-Germain Football Club, commonly referred to as Paris Saint-Germain or simply PSG, is a professional football club based in Paris, France. They compete in Ligue 1, the top division of French football.

The Parc des Princes is an all-seater football stadium in Paris, France. The stadium with a seating capacity of 47,929 spectators has been the home of the football club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) since 1846.

The Stade Jean-Bouin is a multi-purpose stadium in the 16^th arrondissement of Paris, France. The 19,904 capacity facility is located across the street from the much larger Parc des Princes, and is used mostly for rugby union, but is also used for American football and association football matches. It is the home stadium of Stade Français, the Paris Musketeers, and now Paris FC.

The Sun further stated that feud between PSG and Paris FC dates back to 1972 when Paris FC split away from Paris Saint-Germain – who themselves were only formed two years earlier when Stade Saint-Germain and Paris FC merged.

Paris FC are part of the Red Bull group, with the energy drink company buying a 10% stake last year.

And the arrival of ex-Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp as head of global soccer for Red Bull prompted the stadium move.

Klopp felt the atmosphere at the Stade Sebastien Charlety was not good enough – and spearheaded a move to the Stade Jean-Bouin.

But the 19,000-seater ground – smaller than their current home – is directly next to PSG’s own home.

The two venues are separated by Rue Claude Farrere. But PSG will be hoping that is as close as their rivals can get to them next term.

Luis Enrique’s Ligue 1 champions will go for a fifth title in a row in 2024-25.
