Spanish LaLiga club Real Betis have kicked off construction work on the new Benito Villamarin Stadium.

Real Betis recently awarded Acciona a contract for the initial works, which began this April and includes excavation works and the construction of the earth-retaining system using diaphragm walls to allow for the development of underground levels.

In parallel with these activities, Real Betis will continue to work together with Acciona to enhance the design of the new venue and optimize timelines and costs.

In the second phase, the actual construction works resulting from the collaborative process will be carried out.

This phase includes the construction of the new Preferencia Stand, improvements to the existing stands—Gol Norte, Fondo, and Gol Sur, as well as the development of an annex building for commercial use.

Work will also be carried out on the underground parking beneath the Preferencia stand and the annex building itself, as well as the construction of the roof and the vertical façade for the entire stadium.

Real Betis Balompié, known as Real Betis, or just Betis, is a Spanish professional football club based in Seville, Andalusia, Spain. Founded in 1907 it plays in LaLiga, the top flight of Spanish football. The club plays home games at the 60,721-seat Benito Villamarín Stadium.

The development project for the new Benito Villamarin Stadium began last summer with the dismantling of structures and facilities in the Preferencia stand, the demolition of its three sections and the Voladizo staircase, followed by the classification and removal of waste.

This process took place during the final months of 2025 and was carried out by the company Erri Berri.

The work is being carried out in an urban environment with regularly used roads, so the planning of activities will consider mobility conditions and noise management during construction, with the aim of minimizing the impact on the Heliopolis neighbourhood.

With this comprehensive renovation, Real Betis aims to turn the Benito Villamarin Stadium into a landmark of the city of Seville with a new iconic building.

Above all, the aim is to improve the experience and comfort of fans through upgraded access and services, steeper stands, a new roof, modern technology, and extensive hospitality areas.

Real Betis previously worked with Acciona several seasons ago on the construction of the new Rafael Gordillo Training Complex, a facility that has boosted the development of the club’s youth academy in recent years.

In addition to the various pitches, sports areas, and the multifunctional building for offices, gym, and medical services, Acciona carried out works on the road infrastructure surrounding the complex, including urban development actions in the area.

Furthermore, in line with Real Betis’ environmental policy and its Forever Green program, it implemented a bioclimatic design featuring natural ventilation, efficient consumption reduction systems, water reuse for irrigation, the use of renewable energy, landscape integration, and low maintenance—representing a pioneering commitment to sustainability.

A global company with extensive experience in the development of complex, highcapacity infrastructure for public use, such as sports facilities. Notable projects include, in addition to the Rafael Gordillo Training Centre, the new San Mames Stadium.

A leader in providing regenerative solutions for a decarbonized economy, its business offering includes renewable energy, water treatment and management, ecoefficient transport and mobility systems, resilient infrastructure, and more.

The company has been carbon neutral since 2016 and operates in more than 40 countries.
