Real Madrid to rebrand stadium name Image: Real Madrid C.F (Facebook)

The LaLiga team Real Madrid CF are all set to rename their home facility – the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid, Spain – removing the name ‘Santiago’ for marketing purposes.

‘managingmadrid.com’ stated that the stadium will be called Estadio Bernabéu, or simply Bernabéu, from now on.

The Real Madrid CF, commonly referred to as Real Madrid, is a Spanish professional football club based in Madrid, Spain. The club competes in LaLiga, the top tier of Spanish football.

The Santiago Bernabéu Stadium is a retractable roof football stadium in Madrid, Spain. With a seating capacity of 78, 297, the stadium has the second-largest seating capacity for a football stadium in Spain. It has been the home stadium of Real Madrid since its completion in 1947.

‘managingmadrid.com’ further stated that as a matter of fact, Real Madrid have been slowly implementing the above change over the last few years both on their website and even outside the stadium itself. A big possibility could emerge during the next few years as the club could decide to sign a naming sponsor alongside the name Bernabéu.

Some of the products sold inside the Tour del Bernabéu (Tour Bernabéu) also display the word Bernabéu per se without its former full name.

The Tour Bernabéu is a guided tour of the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid, Spain, that includes access to the museum, a panoramic view of the stadium, and more.

A few Madridistas (a supporter of Real Madrid CF, or someone who works for or plays for the team) have shown their disapproval over the above change even though almost nobody actually referred to the stadium with its full name. Real Madrid could make an announcement over the next few months to make the above change official.
