Abloy will give access to Uros Live Arena Image: Uros Live

Tampere’s (Finland) UROS LIVE Arena has chosen Abloy Oy – a leader in security and locking – as its partner for security solutions. With this partnership, Europe’s most modern event arena will provide world-class access. This opens up new possibilities for the users of the experience center.

‘Abloy’ stated that Abloy and the UROS LIVE Arena, which will be completed in Tampere in December 2021, have agreed to deliver security and access control solutions to the experience center. Among other things, Europe’s most futuristic event arena will be retrofitted with state-of-the-art access control. Collaboration opens up new possibilities for its users and visitors.

The 13,455-capacity Tampere Deck Arena, also known as Tampere Central Arena and commercially as UROS LIVE, is an indoor arena in Tampere in Finland that is currently under construction. It is planned to replace the old Tampere Ice Stadium. It will host ice hockey games and will be the home of Ilves and Tappara of the SM-liiga.

Tappara is a Finnish professional ice hockey team playing in the Liiga (top professional ice hockey league in Finland). Their residence is the 5,629-capacity Tampere Ice Stadium in Tampere, Finland. The team has won 14 Finnish league championships with its current name. The team continued the traditions of TBK, who won three national championships in a row in 1953, 1954 and 1955.

Ilves is a Finnish professional ice hockey team. They play in the Liiga and their residence is also the Tampere Ice Stadium. The colors of Ilves, green, yellow, and black, were taken from what was then the coat of arms of the City of Tampere.

Joensuu (Finland)-headquartered Abloy Oy is a leader in security and locking, which aims to increase confidence in the world. By combining its digital and mechanical expertise, Abloy Oy develops modern, industry-leading security solutions to protect people, property and business. A worldwide distribution network covering more than 90 countries is responsible for expert service. Abloy employs about 730 people in Finland.

Stated Marko Hurme, CEO, UROS LIVE Arena, “We are opening an arena of 15,000 seats in December. As the project progressed, we have been looking for partners for the various functions of the property, and now it is time for safety and mobility. Security and access control are the most critical factors for a venue of this size.”

Added Jari Perälä, Abloy’s Director of Sales and Marketing, “For Abloy, UROS LIVE also serves as a development site where we can refine and create completely new functions related to the safety and smooth flow of audiences.”

From the UROS LIVE Arena with its services, an experience center is planned, which will be open every day of the year.

Put in Jani Helenius, the Arena’s Property and Security Manager, “Safe opening of the Arena around the clock requires top-level access control. For example, it must be possible to distinguish areas that are always open to all citizens from spaces that can only be accessed with an event ticket or a fence or hotel reservation.”

Smooth exit

Leaving the arena quickly and safely in the event of an emergency is one of the most important aspects of the event center. For example, the doors of the egress routes are equipped with opening booms.

Helenius explained, “Simulations during the construction phase have shown that 4,500 people can be diverted from the main floor in less than six minutes. Correspondingly, the entire arena can be emptied in an optimal situation in about 10 minutes. This would not be possible without functioning opening mechanisms on exit routes. In addition, State-level guests visit the arena, which is also why it is important to manage and control the flow in different spaces.”

In addition, the fire-closing and door automation provided by Abloy ensures the fire safety of the experience center and at the same time streamlines daily movement in the premises.

In recent years, Abloy has implemented access control and security solutions for many event arenas.
