Groundbreaking on Serbia's new national stadium Image: Fenwick Iribarren Architects

A groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of Serbia’s National Stadium by the Power Construction Corporation of China (PowerChina) took place in Belgrade (capital of Serbia) recently.

‘CHINADAILY.COM.CN’ stated that the commencement ceremony was marked by embedding a ball into the foundations of the new edifice, adorned with the signatures of the eminent players and the officials.

Beijing (China)-based the Power Construction Corporation of China, branded as PowerChina, is a wholly State-owned company administered by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission and part of the heavy and civil engineering construction industry. PowerChina consists of 779 companies.

‘CHINADAILY.COM.CN’ further stated that the Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić affirmed that the stadium would be erected to the most exacting standards. Also providing facilities for the upcoming EXPO 2027 in Belgrade, the new building aspires to embody a City within a City.

The design for the stadium has been lent by Fenwick Iribarren Architects.

The EXPO 2027 is the working title for an International Bureau of Expositions (BIE) recognized specialized exposition to be held in 2027 in Belgrade, Serbia. It is scheduled to begin on May 15th, 2027 and conclude on August 15th, 2027. This will be the first time that a BIE Expo will be held in Southeastern Europe.

Paris (France)-based the International Bureau of Expositions (BIE) is an InterGovernmental organization created to supervise the international exhibitions (also known as expos, global expos or world expos) falling under the jurisdiction of the Convention Relating to International Exhibitions.

The BIE was established by the Convention Relating to International Exhibitions, signed in Paris on November 22nd, 1928, with the following goals: To oversee the calendar, the bidding, the selection, and the organization of the World Expositions.

The Chinese Ambassador to Serbia, Li Ming, expressed gratitude to the Serbian President and the Government for seeking the support of the Chinese companies – “We stand prepared to collaborate with the Serbian partners in realizing this contemporary endeavor.”
