Philippines bags SEA Games hosting rights

Southeast Asia hosts announced Image: FEI

The Southeast Asian Games Federation has announced that the Philippines are set to host the 37th edition of the Southeast Asian Games (SEA) in 2033, as per a Facebook post of the Olympic Council of Malaysia.

‘The Manila Times’ further stated that it was also announced that Laos will host the 36th edition in 2031.

The Southeast Asian Games, also known as the SEA Games, is a biennial multisport event involving participants from the current 11 countries of Southeast Asia – Brunei, Burma (Myanmar), Cambodia, Timor-Leste, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

The Facebook post read, “The Southeast Asian Games Federation unanimously awarded the hosting of the 36th SEA Games in 2031 to the NOC (National Olympic Committee) of Laos and the 37th SEA Games in 2023 to the NOC of the Philippines.”

‘The Manila Times’ further stated that the Philippines have hosted the SEA Games earlier four times – 1981, 1991, 2005, and 2019.

The 31st SEA Games were held in Hanoi, Vietnam in May – from May 12th to May 23rd. Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore are expected to host the Games in 2023, 2025, 2027, and 2029, respectively.
