New swim hall in Uppsala Sweden Image: Uppsala arenor och fastigheter

The Uppsala Municipality in Sweden plans to build a new swimming hall at the Gränby Sports Field to lessen the burden on the sports facility Fyrishov and meet the increased demand from the swimming enthusiasts to learn the ABC of swimming.

‘Uppsala arenor och fastigheter’ stated that a building permit application was submitted by the Uppsala Arenas and Properties in this regard recently.

The Uppsala Municipality is a municipality in Uppsala County, Sweden. The municipality’s seat is located in Uppsala, the capital of Uppsala County and the fourth-largest City in Sweden. The municipality manages the water supply, wastewater treatment, streets, waste disposal, and ensures environmental protection.

The Fyrishov is a sporting facility in Uppsala, Sweden. It is Sweden’s fourth most visited arena for swimming, sports events, meetings, and recreation. The facilities include areas for indoor sports, Summer sport and a water park with waterslides, a 50-meter pool, training pool, relaxation area, and an outdoor swimming pool.

The Uppsala Arenas and Properties is a municipal company that owns, manages, builds, and develops the arenas and properties.

‘Uppsala arenor och fastigheter’ further stated that as per the building permit application the swimming hall will be built as per specifications in toto as was promised by the Uppsala Municipality in a function held recently. The new swimming hall will come fitted with a 50 meter indoor pool for training purposes as well as for holding competitions, two pools for learners and a diving pool with dips and trampolines at different heights.

Summer Outdoor Pool

The swimming hall will also come equipped with an outdoor pool that will be operational during Summer and will function as a pool for the recreational swimmers, swimming competitions will be held and it will also serve as a public bath. The pool will be skirted by temporary bleachers.

The facility will boast a grandstand capacity of approximately 500 seats, of which circa 400 will be permanent and 100 temporary. The bleacher seats will be lodged both on the pool level and on a staircase above the pool.

The swimming hall will come up in the Northern part of Gränby, Sweden, adjacent to the Gränby Sports Field and close to the Gränby Park.

Commented Karolin Lundström (V), Chairman, Sports and Leisure Committee, “A planned new swimming hall in Uppsala holds great significance for the municipality as well as for the region. It will help the recreational swimmers to sharpen their swimming skills and will also help them in staying fit and in shape. It will come as a boon for the children, the youths, the adults, and the elderly. The swimming hall will also serve the purpose of the swimming associations.”

2026 Opening

Construction work of the swimming pool is expected to begin this Summer and is likely to open its doors by Summer 2026. The outdoor pool will be inaugurated during Summer in 2027. It will come as replacements for the Fyrishov swimming facilities. However, the family swimming pool as well as the adventure pool in Fyrishov will remain until 2030.
